Motown got a grand piano in 1966.Anything before that is a Bell upright!Same with Chess,all uprights on Chuck Berry,Muddy Waters etc.
Sun Records in Memphis had an upright.No grand piano.Stax had an upright until 1968.
Most early rock n roll and blues played exclusively on uprights.

'Duking' it out for grand piano supremacy is hilarious in context of these facts.
