WannitBBBad,

btw - I added a little 'delay' (1.8) to your Sax Section presets and it gives them an additional touch of dimension.

Cheers.

Hi,

I stumbled across this very fine keys player on You Tube last night (Michael Bereal) - see link at foot. He demonstrates one of his 'signature' pack presets: "Bizz Combo 3". It's a good Brass/Rhodes patch and in the verbatim it says you can d/l the patch for free on the Nord site. I have looked but am not able to find it? I wondered if anyone here was familiar with the patch?

Secondly, it's formatted for the 'NS3' and so would I be able to convert (via the 'NSM') it into an 'NE6' file, please?

Much appreciated.

<EDIT> Oh, I think I have it now via this You Tube video:

You find the Michael Bereal pack in the NS3 product related sound library. Not for NE6 use.

But the NE6 has a product specific library, too: https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-lib ... ory-sounds

Hi FZiegler

Oh that's a shame; so the Michael Bereal pack can't even be converted as such (well, I guess the issue is that it relies upon the 'NS3' sound-bank)?

I just had a look and the link (thanks!): there are a couple of professional programmer's packs which are available for the 'NE6' (and for free). Although I'm primarily looking for Brass patches, I do use the Rhodes sound a hell of a lot to be honest.

Cheers,

Paul

I have not sampled an external synth though, as you encourage. It is to my understanding that it is not possible to 'layer' TWO samples on the 'NE6' (I believe you are limited to ONE)..
Yes, correct, however with both keyboards connected via MIDI, a sample loaded into your Nord, and whatever patch you'd like with your Roland, you can record individual notes of the layered sound from both keyboards into the NSE to create a whole new sample. The result would be a layered sample of exactly what you want that you can load into your Nord. Good luck!

another way that you can use for playing Brass samples:
Sample two sounds and put them in two ranges in the sampleeditor. This is just one nsmp for the NE6.
Playing different keys on the different sounds will give a more realistic brass section then using mulitple layers. Just like sections work
This could be sax low and trumpet high, but any combination could work.
To get a little bit of the layering feel back: apply a filter that opens on velocity.

Single sounds:
I like a motif brass sound that you can find in the forum, and pop brass section 3 and 4 are not so bad in a band context.
https://nordusersounds.com/sound/50223
Adding some ping-ping delay will help
For my main brass sound I layer pop-section 4 and Motif brass (on my NW2), but this not possible on the NE6

Hi WannitBBBad,

OK, I think I've got you, thanks.

I am currently using my Steinberg sound-card at the moment so I'll have to dig out my Yamaha mixer (as the Steinberg only has 1 stereo-input).

Would you use Cubase or the NSE to prepare the layered samples? I mean, you could do the donkey-work in the former and then drop the samples onto the corresponding notes in the NSE.

Cheers,

Paul

I really appreciate your time, Eriknie.

I interpret what you are saying in your first paragraph as playing in 'split' mode - but obviously I'm wrong here!

I have just d/l the 'Motif' brass (many thanks for this!). Actually, I have tried delay on brass patches before, but not ping-pong. It's sounds quite good!
You know, I had erased 'Pop Section' 3 & 4 without really experimenting with them - this was probably because 'Pop Section' 1 & 2 are so poor! 3 & 4 are far superior, I did not realise.

Cheers,

Paul

I haven't used the direct-recording capability of the Nord Sample Editor, however I understand you can normalize the recorded notes and save the result as a WAV file in addition to creating the NSMP/NSMP3/NSMP4 sample you want. To date I've used Audacity for recording/editing my sounds and saving the work as a WAV file for importing into the NSE but will likely try using just the NSE the next time I put something together. As NSE will save the WAV file, I will have the option of importing it into Audacity if I want to do any further editing (but may not need to). Take care

WannitBBBad,

That's all very good and interesting, thanks.

I have a lot to learn about the Nord to be honest. I have a clear idea of what it is I would like to achieve; but I keep hitting brick walls, plus I have lots of ideas going on at once. Basically my whole life and existence is music. I spent the last three years studying how to use Sibelius music notator - it just took over my life completely! I'm aged 53 now and I really need to start getting some results.

As I say, I use Cubase for editing etc, and rendering files as a Wavs, and all normalized at minus-2.

Cheers.
