Is the Nord Stage 3 a good fit for me?
Re: Is the Nord Stage 3 a good fit for me?
Hi Kaffimusic,
Thank you for the excellent advice/observations. I had the chance to play both a Nord Wave 2 and a NS3 the other day and I came to the same conclusion as you: the Nautilus will be able to do what the NS3 can do, plus a lot more. So, I ordered the Wave 2.
I did enjoy the Kronos and selling it was most likely a mistake. I am making an assumption that the Nautilus will have a simpler UI than the Kronos did; in addition I was able to learn how to use the Kronos sequencer and the Nautilus sequencer seems similar.
Thanks again!

Thanks Darth_V8r! I did end up ordering the Wave 2; I think pairing that with a workstation will be less redundant than pairing the NS3. Although I must say, I was very impressed when I tried the NS3 and it was a tough decision

If you have a Kronos or Nautilus, the only real advantages of a Nord Stage 3 over a Nord Wave would be if you prefer its piano/organ sounds/functions over Korg's. Otherwise, yes, the Wave would be better, for being an upgraded synth compard to the synth section of the NS3. Operationally, it's more like the Prophet, and I agree with Kaffimusic, it's simpler than the NS3. The NS3 synth is clever in what it can do with fewer controls in a smaller space compared to these others, but as Kaffimusic said, it means you have to think about how to get what you want out of its limited controls, while with these others, everything is "right there."
I don't think Nautilus will be easier than the Kronos, though... operationally it seems like it will be very similar apart from fewer front panel controls (meaning more would have to be done from the screen, whereas on the Kronos, you could do things either way).

Thanks anotherscott. Seems like the Wave 2 was the right decision for me then. I may have to rethink the Nautilus. I’d like a workstation and am not crazy about Roland. The Yamaha Montage seems like it will be just as difficult to master as the Kronos. I realize workstations are kind of becoming a dying breed, but I prefer hardware to VSTs.

You might want to look into the Kurzweil PC4.jfish930 wrote:I may have to rethink the Nautilus. I’d like a workstation and am not crazy about Roland. Congratulations on getting the Wave 2! Marc (My Keys To Music) is working on Wave 2 tutorials online that you might want to check out - he's put out quite a few on the Nord Stage 3 as well.
