One difference between the B/Bb presets and the Preset II button is that the Preset II button stores different vibrato/chorus and percussion settings as well. But you can certainly duplicate the B/Bb functionality..

Now got it home and just started to look at in more detail
One question...the NORD SAMPLES LIBRARY are as they say on the tin...this is my assumption (from the 30mins spent on it!)

Using SOUND MANAGER you cannot simply download these samples into a Bank/Program slot...they come down into Samples space/tab and then you can send them up to the Stage 2 where you can then save them/rename into a specific Bank/Program slot? ...seems a tad long winded but is this correct?

Hello Guy,
yes, you are correct.
Samples are a sound source, a building block, but not a fully formed patch or program.
It's best to find a patch that uses a similar sample and try the new sample out in that context.
Cheers, hanon

To clarify terms:
a Patch is a synth memory location. It is a collection of synth related parameters such as oscillator wave (sample or virtual analog) and envelop parameters, filter parameters.. etc. when saved externally, it is saved as .n2s for the NS2, and .nss for the Classic and Ex versions, these are not interchangeable.

Yeah, the Electro treats them as sounds, you just play whatever sample you load. The Stage 2 treats it as a wave form in the synth section, which means you need to tweak the ADSR envelope and zero out all of the subtractive synthesis parts to get the straight sound through to the end.

You can make it work more like the Electro by using the Sound Init function, so you don't have to manually tweak any of that stuff to get basically the "straight" sound. Also being discussed at http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-stage ... t2023.html

So when you upload a sample from PC to NORD, the sample uploaded simply replaces the underlying sample in the patch you are currently displaying (FX etc..remain as is)? Is that correct?
So, therefore I see your point about finding a patch (as the landing area) that already has characteristics you want in you new Patch (to start with)

Thanks for all the help again

Hi again
Got most of my set sounds programmed in it now (very simply) but the SLOT A & B thing is still a bit of a mystery to me sadly...how do you get sounds into Slot B?
Can some one give me the "Dummies' guide" to the 3 scenarios below using Sound Manager

1. Create a new program where SLOT A is a PIANO and SLOT B is an ORGAN so I can switch A>B quickly
2. Create a new program where SLOT A is a Mellotron String and SLOT B is A Mellotron Choir
3. Create a a new program LAYER using both sounds from 2 (i.e. Tron STRs and Tron CHOIR together for the full keyboard)

I guess I am bit thick at this stuff! Sorry
Guy

You cannot do that in Soudn Manager, which is merely a librarian, not a patch editor.

You need to create the programs on the NS first, then you can use the Sound Manager to upload them to the PC, rename them etc..

In SOUND MANAGER...if it shows sample in the SAMPLE LIB list cannot I then assign it to SLOT A or B...my point is that I am not sure how these sounds (or samples) get into the SLOTS on the NS2
