Two years ago, I decided to wait for a successor of the NS3 only until winter NAMM. I'm very happy now I didn't wait any longer.

There is a NS4 certainly pending - but I wouldn't bet it's going to be released this year.

Maybe, you get a NS2ex used?

Yea, I feel your decision tension, and you definitely made the right choice. In my case, so much more time has passed...

But yea, the NS2ex might be the best way to go if mine breaks before NS4 comes out. The ex would be a handy upgrade, and I'm guessing I wouldn't have to reprogram anything.

But a quick look on Reverb shows NS2 HA88s as well over $3000 still. I can't imagine taking the risk on a used, outdated product for that price... ugh.

Based on memory upgrades..

I believe nord stage 3 ex coming at next 2-4 months.. with also a new piano sample..

Nord piano 5 has now 2gb piano memory and 1gb synth memory..

While the flagship nord stage 3 has 2 gb piano memory and 480 mb synth memory…its strange that the flagship and most expensive instrument now is lower in synth memory from a cheaper nord piano 5.. i hope you understand my meaning

I believe stage 3ex will have 3gb piano memory and at least 1gb synth memory..

Anyway also electro 6 has only 1gb piano memory while nord piano 5 nord grand and stage 3 having 2gb..

So its going to be electro 7 with 2gb or stage 3 ex…

I am closer for stage 3 ex because electro is cheaper enough so i dont think they will leave the cheaper one with 2gb.. i believe they will upgrade electro at 2023 and at 2024 they give stage 4 or nord grand 2.

@M1tsos, those sounds like good bets. Is it just an educated prediction, or do you have some deeper insight?

But after 5 years, it seems like we should be getting feature upgrades (NS4), not just a boost in memory.

I dont have any connection.. i just predict based to my trading experience with companys all these years (i own sound and lights rental business) and by watching every release and what is the pattern they follow..

Example nord piano 4 was at 2018 and nord piano 5 2021..

Nord electro 5 at 2015 and electro 6 at 2018

Nord grand 2019

Nord stage 2 was 2011 and ex was 2015

Nord stage 3 2017..

The best possible scenario for me is stage 3 ex comes at 2022 and stage 4 at 2024 or 2025

Its also very possible for electro 7..

My personal wish is a nord grand 2 or a stage 4 with triple sensor keybed.. but im sure non of these 2 wishes will come true this year hahahaha

About the upgrade after 5 years you said… think that their research and development team delayed hard during covid also now war came and this war crisis delay everything and prices will rise up the shipments with supplys from china need to do a lot more distance to go around which means more expensive shipping costs etc … i dont think it will be wise to release a new flagship instrument because it will be commercial failure by that no body will have money for it…

As i said i strongly believe for stage 3 ex or electro 7 all depending on the marketing move.. if they make electro 7 with 2gb piano memory then everyone who dreams nord will go for electro 7d cheap at less than 2000 euros and with a hammer action midi keyboard they will have a very awesome piano that is like nord piano 5 without synth…By doing that they will win a lot of sales for electro 7d. And next year they give new upgraded stage 4 so they get all the money from the already users again….

Plan b could be make stage 3 ex and a new piano sample and they get just people who want all in one.. because everyone want all samples xl and i know many people having 2 nords for the memory and having everything in xl sample. Which for me is not so important… because there are so many nice piano samples that you cant play with all same time during a gig.. for me i use maximum 4-5 pianos.. 2 uprights and 3 grands all these in xl are maximum 1gb .. but for the stage 3 i wish i had more synth memory.. so a stage 3 ex with 1gb synth memory could be awesome.. for sure i would sell my stage 3 and add some money to get the ex

Anyway all these are just deep thinking from me… i might be wrong but.. this is the way most of the big companys thinking for how to make sales

All of your forecasts sound very plausible! Thanks for your insight!

What is a "triple sensor keybed"?

I would prefer a 3EX instead of a 4 to be sure that all my existing programs can be reused !

Because my english isnt so good to explain it with typing words..

Check this video

You can have more action and more detail in pianisimo to fortissimo dynamics with triple sensor compared to dual sensor keybed..

IF and when a Stage 4 comes out...that will be the perfect time to buy an "obsolete" end-of-production Stage 3!
Consider that when the Stage 4 is announced, it will take months for it to be available (especially with the current delays in everything), and then months (years?) before all bugs are corrected and it reaches its full potential.

With the Stage 3 you will get a fully mature, tried and tested product that will be more reliable and robust, with the added benefits of years of collective experience and online resources (tons of free and commercial patches and sound banks, forums and Facebook groups with solutions to any possible problem, etc) and most probably a substantial discount to blow out remaining stocks.

When the Stage 3 came out, I upgraded my Stage 2 that way...getting one of the last Stage 2Ex from Thomann with a neat 1000€ discount.
