For me the Royal Grand is one of the few that sounds good when using a single speaker. Italian and Silver don't sound right with a single speaker. While the Bambino and Amber do not get messed up by using in single speaker mode, I was not satisfied with their low end. If I had something newer than my Electro 3. I would want to use the newer White Grand.

What piano sounds have you tried so far on your new Stage 3?

If you want to check out that post of mine I mentioned. ;)

nord-stage-forum-f3/nord-stage-3-as-a-s ... ml#p130250

Check out analogika's post and then mine immediately after it. They pretty much sum up Nord acoustic piano philosophy for me...

I've tried them all; Black Upright sounds pretty good but I have a black acoustic upright in my studio, so it might just be the name :D Yes, some pianos do sound better than others. And yeah, the White Grand seems amazing! I think I'll try it. For now I'm focusing on surf rock and less on piano. So - wurly & B3 and totally having a blast.

Hello
I seem to have a problem with this piano especially with the notes Csharp5 and D5 in which I hear a metallic sound when played with velocity. Is this normal or part of the sound? is there a way to "edit" these samples so as to attenuate this clanging sound? Thanks in advance for your answers

Samples cannot be edited freely but please record a small audio track where the noise is audible, so that the issue can better be tracked down.

Yes, the D5 in Royal grand, at high velocity, seems a blow in a railing... When I had the NS 2 ex HP it was really evident, because it easily went to high velocity values. With NS 2 HA instead, the problem disappear, because it have a better velocity curve.

Is Nord aware of, and doing something about, this issue of C#5 and D5? It's now 5+ years after hrestov's 2018 post about it, and I'm having this same issue with even the newest Royal Grand XL samples downloaded in 2023. At this rate, the likelihood of Nord correcting this sample seems minuscule, hence I probably should abandon Royal Grand XL and move on to another sound.

How do you connect the single speaker, through the left or right channel? Do you use the Mono function?

On my Electro 3, I have tried connecting my EV zx-a1 to left with Mono button on, and connecting it to either L or R with the Mono button off. (I have tried this with multiple Nord AP sounds, but I don't recall how many I have done this with).

If I had an Electro 5+ or Stage 2+, I would definitely try the White Grand. It might be time for me to upgrade, based on the jack for the Sustain pedal no longer working with my E3, and at last Friday's gig my E3 also was not able to use Sustain via an external MIDI converter, even though we could tell it was sending MIDI when the sustain pedal was pressed. And it's not just a bad jack in the E3.

If I was smarter, I would do an EQ analysis of the old XV-based base unit AP sound in my Roland FA-07, and try to duplicate that EQ in a Nord AP sound. That old XV-based base unit AP sound sounds like crap standalone, but the way it sits in a mix for a 7 piece covers made is freakin' magic.
