One last Question when i have a Profi here

I would like to connect a Roland CubeStreet to the UMC404. Thats a Stereo Preamp ( https://www.roland.com/de/products/cube_street/ )


For now the Cube is connectet to the right/left out from the Nord Piano to hear the Sound.

If i want to connect the Cube to the UMC 404 where i must put it in and what for a Cable do i need please?

Headphone output of your UMC404 to the Stereo Aux In of your CubeStreet?
1/4" TRS to 1/8" TRS cable would do it.
(TRS = Tip, Ring, Sleeve = Stereo)

Those are little Things i never knew ( That if it has one ring its mono and two rings its stereo )

That's not entirely the full truth - stereo often uses TRS connectors, but so does something called "balanced audio" which, in comparison to standard TS instrument cables (the normal guitar cables with just a tip and a sleeve, no third conductor), offers much higher rejection of electromagnetic interference and thus is used in professional gear for a cleaner signal and longer cable length without degradation of performance from interference.

You can also get stereo audio like the Nord keyboards do, with a pair of mono TS instrument cables (most pro gear does this with a pair of TRS balanced cables, each monophonic but carrying that fancy balanced signal).

So it's important to be able to distinguish between 'stereo TRS', a 'balanced TRS', and a mono TS aka 'instrument cable'. This has tripped a lot of people up before, so understanding the difference is worth it when you're starting out! The TRS cables themselves are exactly the same, the only difference is what the purpose of the connectors are on each end of the connection - if you plug a stereo device into a mono balanced input or vice versa, you won't get what you might expect unless you're aware that they're different uses for the same connector type and cable!

Another Problem here :/

we used to record the Audio Signal with Audacity yesterday. I have installed the UMC404 Win10 Driver correctly on the Laptop.. Sadly we only had one mono jack cable her so we only record 1 channel. But its ok for now its only for testing. But one Problem we have ( maybe you find the fault if i describe )
In Audacity i have 3 types to choose:
MME
Windows Direct Sound
Windows WASAPI

On the Microphone Logo i can choose the Channel of the UMC 404 CH 1/2 - /3/4 and on the Speaker Symbol i can choose the UMC404 CH 1/2 - /3/4 too.

I choose the MME and CH 1/2 and i can record the Sound but even if i set the loudness level realy down the Sound records Distortet.

Could this be because i only record with one mono jack cable? Or is something wrong with my Settings?

There should be a Windows mixer (not in Audacity) where you can lower the volume?
Perhaps the problem is that the microphone does not match the impedance of the audio input you are using.

Hello Mr G,

i have lower the Volume in Windows too but its distorted in the louder passages but i can see no clipping and when i record with Audacity the Waveform is always green. ( no yellow or red )

I dont use a microphone so that is out of the question. i only recorded the piano sound

The problem is almost certainly that you run a too hot signal into the audio unit. Lower the output volume on the Nord, or - if there is a potmeter on the input side of you audio interface - lower that.

Mono does not make a difference here at all.

The different audio drivers probably doesn't make a difference for the volume either - they are merely impacting the way your computer talks to the interface, and what latency you get.

But what is a potmeter?

A potmeter is the device that is used in volume controls etc (input, output, balance). Usually that is what you control with a dial.
