New Nord Electro 6

I've just looked over the images again this morning and noticed...there is no Global Gain knob!!

As a Spacestation v3 user (I know there are quite a few out there), the Gain knob on my NE5D is absolutely crucial. As the Spacestation is a mid-sensitivity keyboard amp/monitor, somewhere between -10db and +4db, you have to crank the gain to get the cleanest, clearest and loudest performance out of it. The Global Gain knob has been removed to make space for the 'Part' LEDs in the EQ section.

I don't know what this means for most other players, but even before having the Spacestation, I found the Global Gain really useful, especially when you need a quick boost to cut through the mix (say during a solo)! Anybody else?

Isn't the Master Volume enough to do that? I mean to change volume "on the fly", then you have the individual section levels too (as in the Nord Stage)

I believe your looking for the "Master Level" control located top left of the organ section. Not to be confused with the organ level located just to the right.

No, Volume and Gain are completely different things...all other previous Electros had both Master Volume & Master Gain knobs. This latest Electro has done away with the Master Gain. Gain controls the strength of the signal, volume purely adjusts how loud or quiet the output of the keyboard is. Adding Gain means your signal cuts through the mix better and means your are driving a stronger signal to your speakers, without increasing the volume.

I've just had a look at the Stage models, and it would appear that the new Electro 6 has taken more the layout of the Stage keyboards (these also do not have a master Gain knob). It suggests that you can only increase Gain via the EQ section, but again, you also had this on the Nord 5, but also gave you the option of a master Gain, which I really like and rely on. I'm not moaning, just find it interesting that they've gotten rid of it.

I believe the nuance here is that the NE6 is the first Electro where Nord is giving you individual control of the gain for each part with a dedicated knob for this per part, plus the master volume control. This is the same way it works on the Stage models. This allows you to set relative volumes and mix parts together, as well as having the ability to leave some buffer to bump it up for a solo or whatever, per each part.

Biggest improvements to me:
1) seamless transitions (it was the time!)
2) stand (I miss it a lot in my NE5)

I read somewhere something about "completely revised interface"... What? To me, Nord designers and engineers build the best hammond clones etc. but they have no idea about what usability, UX, cognitive compatibility, etc. are. I set my programs and setlists the day I bought my NE5 and from that moment on I cannot afford to modify almost anything. Anytime I need to save some slight change I need to REMEMBER the keys to press, there sequence, I must take care if I am in setlist or program mode... Nord designers and engineers: please go to see the difference between recognize and remember. At least this.

Definitely... it does not worth the burden. I stay with my NE573.

Now I’m not entirely sure about the Electro 5, but for the Stage series, the situation is the complete opposite:

There is some discussion about whether there might be better organs out there (Viscount Legend and Uhl HX3 are the prime contenders), but there is absolutely no question whatsoever that the Nord has the most ridiculously simple interface for what it can do. There is literally no more-straightforward machine out there.

You do have to make the initial effort to understand the structure of the machine, but once you do, anything you might want to do can be done in under thirty seconds, without having to remember any weird button order or so.

As for the music stand, Nord has included that on the Stage 76 and 88 (NS2, NS2EX, NS3) units, but looks like it just trickled down to the Electro HP this time around

All piano-action Nord stage pianos (HA and HP Stages, Pianos and Electros) always had attachments for the music stand.

But for unfathomable reasons, the same models with SW actions didn't. I could never understand why such a simple and useful thing was left out in otherwise identical keyboards.

I see your point, reading the NE5 manual it says:
output volume of each Program is controlled using the GAIN knob. this value is also stored within the Program, allowing adjustment of relative volumes between Programs.

so as you say on the NE6 this has now changed to a per-section level setting, NS like.

UX is so appealing just because... it is completely subjective (you love it or you hate it)

Neveretheless, on stage... gigging... sweating... 30 seconds are a life.
