Re: Nord Drum 3p is very noisy

"Are the problems that I and others have experienced a result of some faulty batch, or are they inherit to the reverb engine and the design of the unit?"

I´m wondering the same... but whatever the cause of the problems could be, the isuue is NOW present and NOT FIXED AT THIS MOMENT. There´s is not warranty at all in this moment that Clavia is going to fix these problems with a new firmware update and much less certainty of when it will happen (if it is goig to happen...).
In my case I'm not willing to wait for them someday to solve the problem without any warranty that it will happen.

Issue 1: "The constant hiss of the headphone output. The hiss begins when the unit is turned on, irrespective of settings, and does not respond to the master volume level. It is just there, constant and ever-present. In contrast, the line outputs in my unit are clean."

In my case is worst beacause I have the same noise in the headphones and the line out.

Issue 2: "The noise present when any type of reverb is on, even on its lowest settings. The crackling noise will begin immediately when the pads are hit, and it decays slower than the reverb trail. The sound from the line outputs is otherwise crystal clear when the reverb is off."

Issue 3: "The reverb in general accumulates a lot of hiss and noise in some patches, to an unacceptable degree in some cases. Here is the description of a patch demonstrating this:"

Issue 2 and 3, exactly the same.

I did the following test and attach 2 audio files:

EXAMPLE 1--- NORD DRUM 3

I record six stereo tracks in 0 Db with no sound coming from the Nord Drum 3 to test the floor noise. I recorded 6 tracks because the Nord Drum 3 is a six midi channel unit and it can handle 6 sounds at the same time. When I hear the six recorded tracks I get a really noisy result that you can listen to here(just cranck the volume up and enjoy). So if I record 6 tracks (one per channel) this is what I get---. The users should be aware that if they record various tracks a sum of the noise is produced.

EXAMPLE 2--- NORD RACK 2X

I did the same test with a Nord Rack 2x and the results are night and day. The Nord Rack 2x has a very very very little noise (like all synths) but it is within the normal/aceptable range. I also did a test with other synths and I get the same results as with the Nord RACK. Not audible with only 1 track.

RESULTS wavelab analysis

PEAKS

SILENCE IN MY INTERFACE LINE IN nothing connected X6 tracks= -76,16 dB
NORD RACK 2x connected X6 tracks= -70,28dB---DIFFERENCE WITH SILENCE= 5,28 dB
NORD DRUM 3 connected X6 tracks= -58,23dB---DIFFERENCE WITH SILENCE= 17,93 dB

NORD DRUM 339% NOISER THAN A NORD RACK 2X in the same computer with the same audio interface.
NORD RACK 2X----NORMAL/ACEPTABLE SYNTH NOISE
NORD DRUM 3-----UGLY NOISE.

Judge by your ears.

This topic should stay on top.

Contacted Clavia support months ago, they don't seem care at all.
Had my unit exchanged at thomann.de, same thing, noisy bugger.

My guess is, they are discontinuing their drum and percussion efforts.
ND 2 is nowhere found by now anymore. ND3 disappeared even before being distributed.
Feels kinda fishy to me.

If any of you purchased at thomann, use their review section and state the problem.
Maybe Clavia will wake up, one day.

Hi everyone,

I'm so sorry to hear of all these problems. I got a 3P a few weeks ago, but my experience is a little different to yours.

Headphones, everything was pristine. Even reverb.

A week ago I plugged the 3P into my Apogee Duet (via the line outputs) and I experienced the same thing as you guys. Hissy and horrible. Unusable. Major bummer.

At the weekend I thought I'd give it another go - and whatdoyaknow - absolutely perfect. No rhyme or reason to it. I'm unsure if it's a grounding thing, an interference thing or just a loose connection.

While I'm currently enjoying it, there is part of me just waiting for it to revert back to the noisy state.

It's a real shame no-one from Clavia has poked their heads in or replied to some of you guys. :(

Hello, has anyone received a response from Clavia?. Is the Nord drum 2 discontinued right now?

Thank you

Just out of curiosity I did a quick search online and indeed it looks like the ND2 is now gone; there's none on ebay and the distributor in my country no longer offers it for sale, you can only backorder the 3P. I'm kinda stunned not to find a single ND2 for sale the moment, not even used ones. Not that I need another one and I'm more than happy for I bought mine 2 years ago. At one point I was considering to get a 3P as well, but it is this very thread that made me not to. As for Clavia being totally unresponsive, I cannot fathom how such an established and well reputed business can afford themselves this kind of negligence and bac attitude towards their customers. I hope the noise issue gets eventually worked out for you guys.

Hi guys!

I would like to buy a 3p in the future. Are there any updates on this issue? It does sound kind of annoying and I'm very interested in buying this instrument.

Thanks!

Hi again guys,

I just checked and there hasn't been an update for a while. It has almost been 1 year since the last update. I don't know why Nord hasn't fixed this very concerning issue ...

I haven't decided if I will buy it or not, but I want this thread to stay at the top.

Hi,
Can I suggest not to bump up messages just "so they keep on the top". They will get deleted by the moderators because they are annoying to everybody else.
Also note that this forum is not the best place to request fixes. While Clavia might read the forum sometimes, you surely will get better results if you contact them directly through the feedback page or through the dealer in your country.
Hope the issue gets fixed, by the way!
Thanks.
