Nord Electro 5D organ hard to sound clean

For the people who have found Electro 5 (or 6?) to never sound clean enough, I'm wondering, does that also include when you back off on the expression pedal? I was thinking about that because lots of Electro owners don't necessarily even have an expression pedal connected, and with nothing connected, I assume it acts as if the pedal were up at full volume... and on a real tonewheel organ, with the swell pedal at max, I don't think it's possible to get a totally clean sound either.
