thanks!
I'd be very surprised if any quality, modern active speaker wouldn't take the line signal of the E5 just fine. I was about to push the button on a pair of K8.2s but there's a £STUPID CHEAP deal on Yamaha DXR8s in the UK at the moment, to clear stock now there is a Mk2 available, so went with them; widely considered the closest competitor. Both the QSCs and my Yamahas have a good basic mixer stage for a couple of sources.

No mixer needed with the Yamahas though with the stereo link feature.
I went for the 10s over the 8s for their floor monitor angle ability.

I'm about to purchase a pair of QSC K8.2 for my son who uses an Electro 5 (currently using it with a KC-550). I have a bag full of XLR cables and wondered if I could purchase some XLR > TS adapters (or would it be XLR > TRS?) or should I just get a set of new set of 1/4" cables (and if the latter, should they be TRS or should I stick with the TS cables?). Thanks for you guidance in advance. I've learned a lot from reading your discussions around the QSC K8.2 !

The easiest thing to do would be to use a pair of bog-standard 1/4" TS or TRS cables -- either will work. I have had less than good luck with small cable adapters -- they get lost, they sometimes crackle, etc. If you do go the adapter route, don't forget it's male XLR to either TS or TRS.

ahh, good point. Thanks a lot. I'll get the TS cables.

The actual correct answer is get a set of TS cables. The Electro 5 does not have balanced outputs and TRS connectors are both the wrong connector type as well as the incorrect signal path.
If you plug into the QSC K8's using adapted XLR cables, you will be plugging into the Mic input on the speaker rather than the Line-input which is the 1/4" portion of the combo jack. You will also want to set the input to Line In.

Actually I don’t believe this is the case. The block diagram shows both sections of the Neutrik connector feeding the mic pre and the manual refers to “setting the level” in the menu structure.
while I have experienced that with other products, it is not my personal experience with the QSC. I have had no issues feeding them with a +4 signal via the XLR inputs and the manual shows a mixer being connected to the XLR inputs.

Thanks Jeffmac. Yes, I have assumed that the XLR cables can be used as unbalanced connection using the Mic-Line (A) and HiZ-Line (B) inputs (which are combo inputs). That said, as Cphollis pointed out, it's just another piece to keep track of and a possible connection weak point. I went ahead and purchased the TS cables.

Finally joining the masses and getting two QSC K8.2 to use with my Stage 2 as stage monitors. Without a lot of trial and error, is there any good info on the various DSP settings and which one I should use. I've read that default and stage monitor are basically flat, but what's the difference between stage monitor 2 and studio monitor?
And a lot of you are setting them up on short poles behind you. Since the new 8.2 now has the ability to lean back like a typical stage monitor, then is there any advantage is not having these on the floor, one on either side instead of using poles?

I prefer not to carry extra gear, so I use my two K8.2 on the floor in back of me in stereo in the wedge position. I also have one or both of my monitor sends going into the second input on each speaker and then can dial in my voice and guitar (he is on the other side of the stage) to taste. Works perfectly, I can hear my keys in stereo and the rest of the band perfectly. My vocals can get plenty loud enough because of this placement.
