Re: List of Nord Stage 2 known issues/bugs
Please be aware that the Nord developers will likely not read this forum; we're an independent forum for users of Nord products, not the official Nord user forum (hopefully Clavia will make this clearer on their own website). If you want to be absolutely sure Clavia sees something, send them a message about it via the contact form on their website.
Posting in this thread is a great way to let other Nord users know about (possible) issues you found with the Stage.

Thanks mjbrands. I agree and I will soon send my question directly to Nord technical support too.
Nevertheless, considering they indicate this forum in the official Nordkeyboards website "Support" page (as a User forum, non-official) , I guess sometimes they may take a look here too

Re: List of Nord Stage 2 known issues/bugs
Hi,
I have the NS2c for almost a year. In one year I got 2 different keys where the sensitive responce of piano broke down. It was to loud or to soft the sound of the key. Lucky it can be fixed on guarentee, but was wondering if others also experience this issue?
Greetings, Rogier

Re: List of Nord Stage 2 known issues/bugs
I received my new Stage 2 this past week (running OS 1.70). I noticed the same problem with the filter when programming the Synth section. The cutoff frequency will shift unexpectedly after about 30 to 60 seconds. I tried with each Osc category (Sample, Square, FM, etc), same results for each one. Looks like the only other post on this topic was from "keram", is anyone else aware of the issue or a fix? It doesn't look like it has been part of any OS update so far.keram wrote:Hello,
I`m not sure, if someone posted - my english is not the best to understand all of the posts - but I noticed a bug (?) in Filter section:
I realized some opads, in which the cutoff (Freq) suddenly switches between 2 positions ( dark to "full bright" ). Even I save a pad ( samp ) with right freq / cutoff postition, I can play it and suddenly the cutoff goes up to full. Someone noticed or do I have a failure in thinking?
Don`t have this bug / failure on stage EX or Electro 3...
thanks!

Re: List of Nord Stage 2 known issues/bugs
Hi, try initialising the synth section first and see if the problem persists.
It might be possible that the LFO or the envelope is modulating the filter, but the knobs indicate something else (as they are not motorised).
Also check that the filter EG Decay is at its maximum. Remember that this is an ADR (so you will always get a drop in the modulation unless the D is at the max), This is unlike the ADSR (which should keep the filter open at the S level).

Hey everyone, I don't think this one has been posted yet:
I'm a new Stage 2 user (Rev B, OS 1.7). Sometimes my upper drawbars (8th, 6th) will pull themselves slowly open after I try and make a small adjustment. Touching the button again won't correct this (ex, I could crank it back down to 'off' quickly and it will open up again).
Anyone?
The external MIDI section also seems to be a bit of a mess (not sending program/volume changes).
Also, agreed on the Drive knob. It ramps up from 'slightly' crunchy to a massive noisy mess pretty quickly.
I'd like to rely on the distortion being there for me in solos as it sounds great to make gain from here.
I absolutely love the board (The piano/keyboard depth and response are so nice!)
I've come from a laptop sample setup/Big Yamaha P series). Finally, a reliable solution.
This forum has been essential to get me started!
Thanks all.
Nick

Re: List of Nord Stage 2 known issues/bugs
Hi Keram,hi Nelson,
as a new NS2 (also lates OS 1.7) user i also came across this problem, when i used a synth with the appegiator. just toggled randomly from mellow cutoff freq to bright. Very "insteresting" sound in a mellow intro. I gave the guys at Clavia a discription of this issue and i hope they can fix it.

Palindrome wrote:Hi all,
I’ve been lurking a while on this forum and thought I’d join and contribute. You seem like a good crowd!![]()
I bought a Stage 2 last summer as I wanted a light keyboard with excellent piano sounds, first and foremost. I quickly narrowed it down to Nord after trying the Rolands and Yamahas. And I loved the organs and synths so went for the Stage 2 instead of the pure piano.
But, what’s been driving me nuts is, what I believe, a bug. I wonder if others have heard it. I don`t see any mention if it on the forum and I hear it so clearly that I wonder if it’s just my unit.
I’ve recorded it and provided a MIDI file as well to see if someone would like to try to reproduce. I’m running OS 1.40.
Essentially, the issue occurs when I’m using the sustain pedal with String Resonance on. It doesn’t happen when String Resonance is off. What happens is that notes are suddenly cut off or drop drastically in volume. I originally thought it was random, but there is some pattern to it that I can’t determine. However, I can reproduce it, every time, recording a passage to a sequencer.
I was encouraged when I read that OS 1.4 fixed an a bug that sounded similar: “Pedal actions could on certain occasions lead to unwanted level changes when string resonance was active. This has been optimized to ensure a smoother and more natural sound.”. But alas, my problem wasn’t fixed.
So, here are three .wav files:
File #1: On the fifth chord strike (the F#m sus2), you should hear the issue I’m talking about, with the notes cutting off/dropping in volume on that chord. The sixth strike is fine again. File #2: Same passage, with String Resonance off. The issue disappears – the fifth chord strike rings out properly. File #3: With String Resonance back on, I started the same passage just after the first strike and initial pedal down. This means there is no pedal until the fifth chord strike (now, actually the fourth) when the F#m sus2 is struck. The issue from File #1 is now gone.
I’ve also attached two versions of the MIDI file, in format 1 and format 0. It would be great if someone can help me determine my sanity

Welcome to this forum!
i feel with you, i have noted it too. Before OS 1.40 it was more intense. But i´m experiencing the same problem and i hope it can be improved.
Before updating it sounded like this:
Melodie cutoff: Bass and Melodie cutoff: Bass cutoff:

Can't reproduce. The latest OS is 1.7 not 1.4.
In 1.7 (among other things):
Fixed an elusive piano pedaling performance issue. Quick sustain pedal transitions right after note on could sometimes cause unwanted sonic results. Thanks to Stephen that helped us out with this.
