Ive realised that when I am playing this quick staccato bubble, I am pressing the key halfway down and actually sliding my finger off it, and this results in the key bouncing - so it is triggering the contact sound twice - which is why it is triggering the "contact" sound twice.

On my NE3 can't see a "key bounce" option under the "sound" menu on the front panel - was this a new thing with the third generation NE4 ?

I think I may have reduced its occurrence.

Under the system menu, option 11 Organ Trigger Mode - Fast or Normal - Ive set it to normal and now its rarely happening ! :)
