It's a nice sample, but we have a lot of bright-sounding grands now. I wouldn't mind having something a little mellower and jazzier. The GLD is still the only one to approximate that, and even that is a little on the bright side when slammed hard.

I believe Clavia works (or worked?) together with Sampletekk for some of the earlier libraries. No idea if that's still the case.

I have just tried it out. I gotta say this is my favorite piano sample, in a close and darker second is the Bosendorfer. What I am loving is the dynamic response, it truly is the sound I've been craving for a while.

Also, I got to admit that I own a Kawai RX-1 so I may be biased. But when I bought that piano I compared Yamaha, (new) Steinway, Kawai and other lesser brands (no Fazioli or Bosendorfer) and I preferred the Kawai sound, regardless of price and size

The best jazz piano player I've met is Andy Laverne and he owns a Kawai. So I suspect the Kawai sound should be good enough for jazz [emoji6]

I'm liking the clarity of this new one - my two favourites so far are the Faz and this one. I find the Bosendorfer and the Steinway, while absolutley lovely to play on my own, are a bit murky when playing in a louder band situation.

After all this waiting we get another bright, cold, thin grand piano with way too much hammer percussion in the ppp-mp area. We don't all play in rock bands!

...Cembalism. The classical demos sound nice. Jazz? Nope!

Ironically, the hammer sound is why I like it. It makes my SW playable for piano, since other samples lacked some of the clear hammer sound. This one makes the dynamics much more appreciable.

About it being suitable for jazz ... Most of the big jazz players have historically played with whats available, most of the times that means Yamaha or Steinway. I believe jazz is more about the player than the instrument. Look at Hiromi, most would place the synth sounds she uses in a different genre, but the way she plays those sounds makes them Jazz Fusion sounds. Take Hiromi away from those sounds and they are more electronic music.

My point is, it is more important that you like the sound, its dynamics and playability than how you categorize the sound. Anything is usable in jazz as long as you use it.

Oscar Peterson had a monster Bosendorfer, that thing could project bass to the third balcony in any venue.

I tested it and I liked it as well. I think it will be suitable in a pop/rock setting with a full band, should cut through the mix nicely. I would not use it for solo play, my favourite for that is still Mellow Upright. My wish now is that Clavia would make a proper piano file of the "Grandma's Upright" that is available but only as a sample (.nsmp), or something similar with a lot of character.

That´s exactly how it is! What you do not feel, you can not express.
I was tinkling around with my MP11 until I switched to the IvoryII ACD.
Then music happened!

Playing the new piano on my Classic Stage Compact for two days now and still loving it - especially the dynamics.
At the moment I'm undecided about the rather loud hammer percussion.
I'm excited about playing it on a gig at the weekend. I'll find out how it's gonna work in a band context...
