Already from the Nord Electro 2 it was possible to play upper manual organ from an Electro on top of an external controller which played the lower manual. Currently this is not possible to full extent, neither will a dual manual organ player benefit from the bitimbrality of the NE5. The NE5 seem to handle two manuals of organ as two timbres.
Yes you've got it. The NE5 simulates dual manual organ by using 2 organ engines. But I wouldn't worry about the implementation of the organ. This is very minor for most people compared to the benefits of Splits and Layers. Then there is the Setlist function which is brilliant for gigging musicians. Oh and there is a separate delay, a wonderful display. Stereo effects, 1Gb piano memory and 256Mb sample memory - and it's the same price that the NE4 was!

Not that there isn't room for improvement - EPs and clavs for example.

But hey - it is brilliant and I've owned most of the earlier models from 2007 (Stage Compact, Stage 2, NE4D61, NE4SW73).

Cheers

Agree much that the NE5 has very attractive new features. The implementation of dual manual organ however currently makes it more relevant to use a NE4, which is a pity for me. Hoped to put the NE5 on top of any controller and be able to play B3 and piano. That would be layering to me, let's hope Nord listen and the architecture makes room for an OS update.

Hold on a second:
it is perfectly possible to have piano on an external weighted keyboard, and B3 on the Electro5D, not? :?:
The only thing you won't have then is a lower B3 manual at the same time.

Or am I really missing out something here?

No, you are not missing something. My hope was that dual manual organ also allowed for piano from external controller as well as playing lower manual organ from the same controller.

UPDATE!!! Here's an extended demo of using the splits with a Korg SV1/ Also includes a look at the MIDI menu and some other stuff. The first minute is just video of the back of the Nord and SV1 then it gets more interesting - cheers.
