Sorry, yes you are of course absolutely right. While very early, I just feel the Telharmonium is a good example of a good idea done badly. But of course it was early, and to attempt to build a synthesizer that uses purely electric generation is a feat in its own right - like the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexanderson_alternator used to generate a carrier wave for radio transmission, the last surviving example of which is actually in Grimeton in Sweden (originally built in 1924, so not too far before the Ondes), and is powered up once a year for demonstration purposes. Unlke the Telharmonium, the Alexanderson Alternator was a commercial success; the station in Grimeton was reportedly operating until 1996.

But we're getting heavily off topic here (one could argue though that Grimeton is not too far from Gothemburg, Swedens other synthesizer capital, where the Elektron factory is :) ).

Now that we are talking about cool old synths...
The idea behind this (spectral synthesis) is pure genius: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANS_synthesizer
And this software mplementation is just super cool http://www.warmplace.ru/soft/ans/

Here is another strange beast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trautonium

This is really interesting stuff - thx guys
I guess it's hijacking Michael's thread and it deserves a thread of it's own in General Synthesizers/Keyboards forum.. maybe

Hej Neo!

I have myself to blame, starting this "educational endeavour". ;)

But I find it most interesting to spice my posts with scraps of historical interest. Bear with me, please.
