Re: triggering Nords notes to Casio
also, you have not mentioned whether you've had a look at the Nord's midi settings. You will be better served in the long run if you take some time to study some basic midi concepts from the various online (or other) sources

I don't know how applicable the info in the "guide to MIDI for the Nord Stage" is to the Electro 3, but it's a pretty useful document and probably worth reading anyway for a few MIDI insights... Available in the Downloads section of this very forum

And now for something completely different...

Re: triggering Nords notes to Casio
For audio outputs, I am using cables for right and left channel outputs from both the Nord and the Casio that run into my mixer. The keyboards work when I'm not hooking them up midi. There is always sound from the Nord. I am listening through headphones.
The Midi light on the Nord is just flashing constantly (after the dump all button is pressed). It doesn't flash just when the Casio keys are played.
My Midi cable has a orange and grey connector plug on each end, for each keyboard. I have tried all different combinations of connecting them and still no sound is produced when striking the keys of the Casio.

Re: triggering Nords notes to Casio
There is no reason to be using the Dump All function, this has absolutely nothing to do with what you're trying to achieve. To be honest, you're not going to get anywhere trying things at random and swapping cables about. In order to get a result, you need to understand what to do. If I were you, I'd stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and go back and read up about MIDI as Pablo suggested, because you're simply not going to get anywhere until you grasp the basic concepts of MIDI. Read through the MIDI sections of your instruction manuals for both your keyboards as well.
But first of all, you need to be sure your MIDI lead is connected correctly, otherwise nothing is ever going to work. Connect one end to the MIDI Out on your Casio and the other end to the MIDI In on your Nord. Once you've done that, leave it alone. Next, your Casio should be set to Local On. Most importantly, in the MIDI menu of the Casio, make sure that the "MIDI Out select" is set to "KEY" and not "MIDI" or 'USB". (Of course, you need to be sure that your MIDI lead itself is not broken).
Now, play some notes on your Casio and tell us whether the MIDI light on your Nord flashes or not while you play. Depending on that, we can start to help you further.
Also, could I ask why you were using the Dump All function?

Re: triggering Nords notes to Casio
Making those changes and settings worked, thanks! The midi light does flash when the notes are pressed on the Casio. I used both of the Orange colored ends "In" for the Nord and "out" for the Casio.
I will make a note of these settings. I thought "Dump All" would send all the program settings to the Casio, so that's why I using that.
I definitely want understand Midi and I need to put more time into learning it. I have looked at both manuals, the Nord and the Casio, but I guess I wasn't getting a clear understanding of it. I'll have to research it more on the internet too.

Midi is easy. Don't be afraid.
Since 1983 remain basically the same.
I must be almost the only one who like to read the owner manual.....
