Hi there,
I would like to lay down a simple pad using the synth, then switch to a piano sound where I can play over top of my synth. I havent figured out how to switch to the piano without stopping the synth noise. can anybody please help?

Which instrument are asking about?
I see that you have a Wave and a Stage Ex, but this question is posted in the Piano forum.
Assuming that you're asking about the NSEx, set your synth sound up on panel B and your piano up on panel A.
When you play synth pad with panel B, hold your synth notes with the sustain pedal and then switch to panel A, any new notes will be piano, your synth notes will continue to sound until you release the sustain pedal.
