FWIW, I strongly suspect that using LIVE button and/or updating to v1.64 were phantoms causes suggested by whatever happened to be going on in the moment when the failure occurred. It is a virtual certainty that this is a simple case of pitch stick failure and had nothing whatever to do with any other unrelated circumstances.

Yup, especially since loads of people are running the newest firmware (1.64) without any issues. I definitely agree with you that having the latest firmware (maybe after waiting for 2-3 weeks for any issues to surface ) is a good idea.
