Nord User Forum

+1 for me.

My wishlist is:
A new rhodes (preferably "normal sounding")
An improved wurlitzer
An improved Clavinet
And a new Rotor sim for the NS2. (It is a downgrade from previous versions)

I haven't realy used any of the newer samples they have released. Be it drums, synthsounds or w/e. But the mentioned stuff could really use an overhaul imo.

How about a Clav with the release samples included?

I'm curious about the claim above that distributors were requesting bass and drum samples. Is this really the case?

The same is perhaps true of the forthcoming White Upright. New acoustic pianos with distinctive character are always welcome, certainly, however I agree that new L/XL-sized EPs and Clav would be far more appreciated.

Hello all,
I'm not quite sure what Clavia's motivations are behind the choice of new releases.
Perhaps they have their own special interests, or own circle of special friends.

Maybe they just think that we'll gladly take anything that's new and free (they'd be correct too)
Just think how great the day will be that we actually get some new EPianos and a authentic Clav with keyoff artifacts

I had somewhat selfish reasons for starting the "what samples do you want" poll.

First, I wanted to prove to myself that I was in touch with the forum, and had a clear idea of what we wanted...
It did turn out the way I expected.

Second, I didn't think that Clavia really marched to the beat of our drum, as we might perhaps be a fringe element.

Third, and finally, it gave us a common activity to participate in, and commune over.

Dave Weiser, head of sound design for Kurzweil is very active on the Kurz fan forums, like sonikmatter. While discussing the contents of the expansion ROM, he explained why there will be so much drum content on it though forumites werent all that drum oriented. Also in the discussion of a possible rack module, he again pointed out that Kurz makes decisions based on what distributors tell them, not forums, and the best way for us to influence Kurz is NOT to post on forums, but to tell our local shop to tell the distributor to tell kurz what we want to buy.

I assume tht Clavia, a similarly sized and focused company has more or less the same methods - and the same requests from distributors.

Kurz makes decisions based on what distributors tell them, not forums, and the best way for us to influence Kurz is NOT to post on forums, but to tell our local shop to tell the distributor to tell kurz what we want to buy.

I assume tht Clavia, a similarly sized and focused company has more or less the same methods - and the same requests from distributors.

In times of social media it doesn't seem to be smart enough just to listen to distributors and not listen to the user community.

The "Nord Drum" has just been released, and we have new drum sounds for our keyboards, it's nice ! no ? (i'm not sure its related, but it happened in this order)

I understand that we are a few in hope for new rhodes / clavs ...
The poll was nice for us here, on the forum, but the ballot box are in the stores !

Yeah, I don't see much need for drum sounds in a keyboard that doesn't include a sequencer.

But I wish every new sound Nord comes out with didn't have to prompt the same chorus of "why this, why not what we really want?" As if releasing drums is somehow stopping them from releasing a new EP.

I think sometimes Nord comes out with a sound just because, well, the opportunity is there. In this case, Roland Kuit created these sounds and Nord is offering them. I doubt Mr. Kuit would have been spending his time on a Rhodes if only Nord didn't want his drums. He's a synth programmer, he's doing the kind of work he does. In other cases, Nord has released things they have licensed from other companies. It may have been a matter of some interesting sounds becoming available at favorable terms, as much as anything else.

There will almost certainly be more EPs eventually. We have no reason to believe that these other sounds are delaying EPs. In the mean time, Nord can release other things that they can provide more quickly and easily for whatever reason, or they can not release anything. Which is better? I don't see any reason to keep looking gift horses in the mouth.

I am not quite in agreement with you, Scott. Nord pays for those samples, and that is payment that could go to other, more popular here on the forum, samples. Another point is that Nord might space their releases, not releasing everything the same week, but spreading releases out through the year (so they dont get us moaning: why hasnt Nord released anything in three six nine whatever months)...so every unwanted release pushes back the release of something interesting.

We have no reason to believe that the money they spent on, for example, the drum samples, is in any way having an impact on what is or isn't budgeted for EPs or whatever, so that's just conjecture. Not that money is ever unlimited, but that doesn't mean that every expenditure is significant enough to affect other planned projects. Synth samples are much less time consuming or resource-intensive to create than multisampled layers of acoustic instruments.

That doesn't seem to be the case... stuff seems to come out whenever they have it ready. Just looking at the Nord home page right now, there was almost 3 months between the CS80 and JP4, so they are fine going 3 months without a release, but then there was only 2 weeks between the JP4 and the OB8 before that, and 2 weeks between that and the Orchestron/Optigan before that. So there doesn't appear to be any pattern of spacing things out or not.

On a related note, while I do hope there will be a new Rhodes (since none of the current ones quite do it for me), I also recognize that, whatever new Rhodes they may come out with might not be to my taste either! I mean, they've already provided six samples, why should I think the seventh will be the charm?
