If you have a selection of different keyboards/stage pianos, that's always the best.

However, you have to be able to afford it (space, financially etc.)

A keyboard for every musical requirement will always be a certain compromise.
Sorry, that seemed to have come across wrongly! I wasn't trying to indicate that you, me or anyone else need multiple boards :-) It can also happen that you e.g. go to a place that have a piano already and you need to find out if you want to bring your own board(s). Around here there can often be an upright (or a Nord/Yamaha/Roland digital piano like the NP series) that you can use, so it can also be a question of how much you want to drag along and if it's worth the extra time and effort to do so, perhaps for a rehearsal or accompanying a singer or a choir.

My point was just that I have experience with both boards and can compare them directly. They are both nice and high quality keyboards, and I personally don't have any problems playing piano on the NS4 (I do that very often) and obviously neither playing piano on the NP5.

This is definitely good information and will certainly help me make a decision or whether I should upgrade from my NP5.

It is very interesting that nobody was responding to this topic in this thread.... (Maybe there are no problems with clunky keys on the NS3...)

I even didn't fully understand what you mean. Did somebody complain about clunky keys on the NS3-HA88? In what context? And what did you originally mean by 'rickety' and 'prone to errors'? Did you hear anything about breaking keys? Or keys that fail every now and then?

In the contrary: There are keys on Nord keyboards which fail, but can be 'easily' repaired ('easy' in the sense of a professional tech). They are 'built like a tank' in the sense of easily replaceable components, not in the sense of undestroyable (which isn't true for tanks either).

I hope and guess. Never had to have anything repaired for now on my NS3-Compact.

My anecdotical contribution to the quality of Nord keyboards: Never had any failure of the keybeds or hardware on any of Nord Electro 2, Nord C1/C2, Nord Stage 2 88, Nord Stage 3 Compact and now Nord Stage 4 Compact. So according to me the failure rate of Nord keyboards are 0%

"Rickety" or "clunky" or "cracky" keys, according google translator in german: "klapprig" or "knackende Geräusche"

I mean, that the keybed get after some time very noisey and clicky. I had for example this problem already with my NP5 after some month (I reported her in this forum):

https://www.norduserforum.com/post145097.html#p145097

As I am interested in a NS4, some music dealer to whom I was speaking, was telling, that many stage pianos have this problems, specially on the NS3 (not NSC and not the waterfall keybed).

Well actually, the word clunky isn’t mentioned in the topic. You were asking about quality, and the quality has indeed been discussed, but maybe not in the context you intended. When the clunkyness has been adressed as atopic, I must say I have never had any clunky keys on any of my Stage-models (classic, 3 and now 4).
The NS4 is quite new, so I’d sure be very disappointed if the keys started sounding clunky by now :-) The NS3 served me by many years (no issues). Haven’t owned the Piano-modles, so I can’t share any experience.

There are several threads in this forum addressing key-issues on various models, so the Nord-line has it’s faults. I don’t know wether they have significally more faults rhan other brands though

According to information from some music retailers here in Austria, CLAVIA NORD has significally more problems on the stages models with the keybeds.

I find the Stage 4 keybed to be excellent for piano playing. I am primarily a rock piano player, and all previous digital keyboards have been 88 note slabs dating back to the Yamaha P80. I bought the Stage 3, after trying the Piano 5 first and found I actually preferred the Stage 3 keybed. I then upgraded to the Stage 4 HA73 for more portability. I think the Stage 4 keybed is noticeably better than the Stage 3. In the end I'm going to sell the Stage 4 HA73 and get an 88 note as I have the Yamaha CK88 for portability. The Stage 3 and 4 keybed is definitely better than the CK88, but I can get along with the CK88 just fine. Takes about three minutes of playing to get used to it after primarily using the Stage 4.

For me, I can get used to just about any decent weighted keyboard after a few minutes. I learned how to play on a Baldwin Acrosonic that had a terrible keybed, and even worse sound. It's all an upgrade from that!
