I've settled into 60/40 as well.

I'm such a dork, after all this time I finally thought of and implemented a much better solution to mellow my screechy, highest octave, organ issue. I just split the keyboard at the highest octave,tweaked the B panel highest octave organ to smooth out the volume to match the A panel organ below. This was mostly achieved by bringing the second to lowest drawbar down on panel B, plus some more subtle tweaks. My screechy top octave was probably more pronounced then most, becuase I program the B3 Sounds with the Mid Range EQ very cranked up Between high mid range setting, a little of the overdrive from the EQ secion and a little compression, I get a more aggressive, pushed sound out of the B3 sounds. More like my Electro 2 organ sounds. Also my amps with 10 inch woofers, might contribute to volume spike. As I said before, when I plugged into a real Leslie 122 the highest octive was not screechy nor over boosted. Guess I don't need to plug in a swell pedal every time.

I did something similar, I wanted more out of the lowest octave or so on the NS3. So I had my main organ sound on panel 1, and on panel 2, I used a split to add a beefy low-end to the organ (with the crossfade on, to gently bring it in as I went down the keyboard)... I think I used the first three drawbars (at most), and boosted bass EQ, I might have also layered it with a sine-wave synth sound.

Clever bit, doing a split in the middle. I avoid most of the organ screech with one of the amp sims (twin or JC). It tames aggressive percussion as well. A bit of adjustment on the main EQ, and it's pretty good to my ears. When recording, you can do much more after the fact. Adding a synth layer adds a whole new dimension to the sound.
