I have a Yamaha P-155 and an Electro 5D.
To me it's the perfect combination:
- I can play the Electro pianos on the Yamaha keybed
- or layer Electro pads on the Yamaha piano sounds, from the Yamaha keybed
- or have any piano/sample played on the Yamaha keybed and organ on the Electro keybed
- or run double-manual organ on the combined Yamaha/Electro keybeds from the Electro engine

I have them stacked close together (Electro front feet resting on top of the Yamaha), and have sound from both running to the mixer.

When I play live I only bring the Electro and "make do" with the waterfall keybed for piano, which is fine for me as I mostly play organs in live situations.

haha ... not really ... I do the same styles like Bert but that does not mean something like you posted in the YouTube video, there are different ones, some of them obviously have been worth to take the risk and tear down the wall at the end

This was going to be my solution, unfortunately doing anything MIDI related with my P-105 is a huge hassle. I'd like to be able to use my rig without having to have seperate computers/laptops/macbooks involved. and budget wise, I'm not gonna be able to get another yamah keyboard and a nord. I am considering just getting a modx8 instead of an electro however, but I'm not a fan of all the menu diving required to make that work. But to everyone, thanks for all the feedback so far! it's already helped me a ton! so far I've narrowed down the options to either looking out for a good deal on a used electro 6d 61(since the ability to use all three patches at once seems very useful) and add all the periferals like an external 88 key controller later. and maybe looking into the modx8. As for looking at an older model like a stage 2, I'm not sure what to expect with that one yet so that might warrant some further investigation. but again, thanks to everyone who already shared their adivce and experience on the matter!

Instead of the MODX8 you could also consider the Kurzweil PC4, which has some advantages like a 9-drawbar controllable organ engine, aftertouch, assignable outs.

or the yamaha yc61, something between electro and stage.

YC61 does not have the 88-key hammer action he is looking for.

I think the modx7 he is going for is also semiweighted, maybe I'm wrong. Sorry, he mentioned the modx8 that is hammer action indeed.

Unfortunately you just can't get Nords on a budget. The P105 is a bit of a non-starter for live work, unless you use it for pianos and go with the Electro for a semi-weighted keyboard doing organ and synths. Even then, the cheapest second hand Electro I found on eBay just now was an Electro 2 (which doesn't have any synths on it, just organ and piano) for just under £1000.

I'd personally just bite the bullet and go for it - I don't mind spending that amount on a Nord because I am confident enough I will make my money back, and I've easily earned enough to pay the £2500 that I paid for my Stage 2 in 2011. They are resilient enough to justify a bank loan.
