Re: looks like both my nords have to go back...
Echo the comments above Lew.
I had a stressful return with my previous Stage 2 EX which drove me insane for two months with the dealer but persevere and eventually it will be sorted.
Hang in there but be prepared to be patient for the solution. Not sure which dealer you were going through but after a month with no NS2 my dealer agreed to send me a loan Nord board until it was sorted. Maybe you could request this?

Hang in there, you'll get it all resolved.
I'm on my third grand. One was used and supposedly in great condition then arrived looked like it was dropped over and over, bent frame, etc. (knew it was a risk but since they allow returns was worth a shot).
Got a replacement, brand new then upper most ABC keys about a 1/4 inch out of level. Finally new one again, upper most keys still out of level. Tempted to exchange it but not sure I feel like doing it again but then $3,500. However, this one isnt as out of level as previous one, I'd imagine its fine and I wont notice but we spend SO much on this stuff...

well, that does it, I'm officially naming and shaming the company. I no longer care.
I purchased both my Stage 3-88 and Grand from a company here in the UK called Promenade Music Ltd. at first, great company to deal with, mind you they landed a £6500+ order due to two charity grants funding this equipment. As soon as the order went in and they had the money, yes, they delivered in person rather than carrier but that meant waiting a little longer, but I was happy with that.
As soon as the first issue started, (this was to do with the nord monitor brackets missing bolts and a UK plug), it was a slightly different story, yes, I'm grateful that SoundTechnology Ltd came through with the parts, all-be-it a week plus later, so the monitors were still in their boxes, etc.
This issue crops up, now bearing in mind I had actually contacted them in December by email about it twice, nothing. Spoke with them yesterday about the issue, called Sound Technology Ltd, both seemed to want to help, so....
Something of interest here... When I reported the symptom of the headphone monitor out performing random failures, guess what I was told... "It's the sample you're playing." Now, If you're a nord dealer and know the equipment well enough, that's not a statement to come out with. Initially I was made to feel like an untrained idiot. I explained that though blind, I've worked with over 60 different synths, samplers, rack units, owned and built my own studio as well as for other clients, etc, I'm a qualified technician also, so I know when a system is failing. also the fact of a digi osciloscope via USB to the mac, volume mapping came out with weird values, nothing normal at all. He then realised I meant what I said and promised he'd help.
1: Promised call from Sound Technology Ltd. Nope, not happened.
2: Promised call back today from the dealer. Nope. Called this afternoon, asked to speak to the director I was speaking with last night, told he'd call me tonight before 6:30pm. nothing.
I feel genuinely let down by this company. I'm sorry to name and shame, but I genuinely feel like I'm being taken the mick out of as a disabled customer who's been in the music industry well over 20 years plus and given my time and experience to various people, etc, yet when it comes to a situation where I need both machines either serviced or REPLACED, nothing doing. I am now losing faith with certain businesses and people who should be providing.a service that surpasses themselves, instead lets customers down.
If it doesn't get resolved, it's time for legal processes. Time to show I won't be walked all over. That said, I don't have the strength to really fight this. I'm fighting two matters, one's keeping me alive literally speaking, the other is justice for my late father. I don't need another fight, one that could harm me.

your supplier / dealer is taking the mick. your keybed is supposed to be perfectly level, calibrated and fit to play, not crap. Tell them to pull their finger out or a full refund and another dealer will get your business.

Yeah, technology isn't making anyone's lives easier. Pretty much a lot harder. Back in the day, you would be playing an acoustic piano. Got a problem? Call a tuner.
Or maybe a Rhodes or Wurli. Even there, most problems can be solved by a small tool bag. You might need to order a part...
The Casio revolution in the 1980s unleashed a lot of monsters. Namely, keyboard styles built around imitating other instruments, orchestras, robots - or producing "synthesized" tones that while occasionally interesting, rarely date well and end up in the dust heap of the next generation. Anyone still pulling out their late 80s synth albums for inspiration? My guess is you'd rather be listening to Jelly Roll Morton.
Some things are timeless. Your Nord Stage 3 is not. It will be electronic waste long before any of us are in the ground.

I do have a service bag, used for digital organs, samplers, etc, but I'm no longer able to work a soldering iron due to my hands not being what they used to be (shakes).

Re: looks like both my nords have to go back...
OK, so, I've come back from a church service today, tired, rather upset by a number of things going on, etc. a phone call to the dealer twice... then later on a call back. wanted to give me a loan machine even when we discussed that I didn't want that, so threatened the company with a FULL REFUND OF ENTIRE ORDER. he finally realised I had too much going on and he became worried... yep... so, saturday, they're coming to take this and replace it with a new one he's taken out of the box to check over. let's hope it's not the shop demo model, etc if so I'll hang him there and then. I've not spent this much money for equipment to fail due to QC issues, etc. NORD. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER because if not, you'll lose me as a customer for good. life is too short and I know that personally if you get my meaning. I don't want any more crap from a company who isn't providing full packaging protection, a series of QC issues and a lack of care to customers..

Completely agree. I can relate with the qc issues too with my unlevel key bed haha. Hope your exchange goes well this weekend and gets sorted.LewTheKeysGuy wrote:OK, so, I've come back from a church service today, tired, rather upset by a number of things going on, etc. a phone call to the dealer twice... then later on a call back. wanted to give me a loan machine even when we discussed that I didn't want that, so threatened the company with a FULL REFUND OF ENTIRE ORDER. he finally realised I had too much going on and he became worried... yep... so, saturday, they're coming to take this and replace it with a new one he's taken out of the box to check over. let's hope it's not the shop demo model, etc if so I'll hang him there and then. Re: looks like both my nords have to go back...
It seems to me that the number of Nords with issues is a lot higher than it should be. Some are surely due to poor packing by Nord, but it's rather worrying to someone who is still considering grabbing one in the future. I hope Nord (and your dealer) figure it out...

Re: looks like both my nords have to go back...
well, saturday mid day, the replacement will arrive. but, in the mean time. Nord is going to receive a letter they will not like, because it will advise them if I receive another instrument with a failure like this, I will take legal action because under UK trading regulations, there are 9 different acts where I can apply particular governance as a consumer and where those apply, if they fail to resolve, let's put it this way, a test case in a high court or international court will be very interesting. I'm sick to death of poor service from a company I trust.
Do you want to know why Nord doesn't respond to emails... Support emails, etc are automatically sent to the distributor and not seen by nord. That is laziness and bad manners on their part.
I actually said to mum last night, if a new stage, etc comes out, I'm not buying any more. Other than the Wave 2 which I can collect personally, I'm not buying another nord to be shipped. I no longer trust Nord in this respect. Poor packaging amongst other things is why these instruments suffer.
