Hello Gambie,
Maybe it's a floppy /tape problem. I think the NE4 is not recognazed by the Commodore (flagship only).
I suggest you try to load NSM with a Minitel and keep on playing pacman (while downloading and debugging).
so patiently waiting...

sysdm.cpl returns "version 2002"Phun Tunes wrote: Would help to know some details. How far do you get if at all in the Install process? If it gives you an error immediately try unpacking (its a zip archive) and run the USB driver & Sound Manager installs separately.
Run "sysdm.cpl" and post what version of XP it says on the General tab.
The program installs fine, when running it, a window is shown saying that the program "is not a valid win32 application".
There are no options set in the compatibility mode (which are for older version of windows).

Its been a while but I am pretty sure version 2002 is 64 bit version of Win XP. It should say on that screen.Mr_-G- wrote: sysdm.cpl returns "version 2002"

It is the "Multimedia edition" of XP. But not 64bit in the same sense of win7.Phun Tunes wrote:Its been a while but I am pretty sure version 2002 is 64 bit version of Win XP. It should say on that screen.

I think you mean Media Center Edition (never heard of multimedia edition)Mr_-G- wrote:It is the "Multimedia edition" of XP. But not 64bit in the same sense of win7.Phun Tunes wrote:Its been a while but I am pretty sure version 2002 is 64 bit version of Win XP. It should say on that screen.
Can you post a screenshot of the Media Center version screen. If you go to Control Panel/System there should be a tab or button (can't remember which) for "About Media Center" that should include the entire versioning plus the CPU info.
I'm going to see later if I can dig out my old XP laptop that's a standard XP installation and see if Nord Sound Manager installs on that one.

Yes! Media Center Edition! sorry!
Will do when I am in the front of the computer (I am away at the moment). Thanks for looking into that.

Re: Warning: Nord Sound Manager does not run in 32 bit syste
Mr_-G-, I installed v7.42 on an ancient Dell Inspirion 6000 series laptop tonight, loaded with XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3, an unabashedly 32-bit OS (and also listed as Version 2002).
The install went fine, the latest/greatest driver was bundled and auto-installed with it (nice touch). Opening the app nets exactly the same popup message that you saw: "C:\Program Files\Clavia\Nord Sound Manager v7.42\Nord Sound Manager v7.42.exe is not a valid 32-bit application."
The registry seemed fine. Nothing out of the ordinary in Event Viewer. I tried some online remedies, such as regsvr32, but nothing seemed to help.
That said, XP Media Center Edition was a essentially a set of extensions to XP Pro, which should have been 64-bit, with 32-bit compatibility. Sounds like something might be fooling XP MCE into thinking SM is 32-bit, when it's not? Or vice-versa?
(Thread snark aside, I generally agree that support for a 12-year-old obsolete OS is a bit of a stretch at this point.)

Ahem, Windows XP is almost 18 years old by now.
