Re: Sound Manager software for iOS request
There isn’t a single Mac on the market that doesn’t have USB, and the MacBook indeed has USB ONLY, and no other ports, at all.
Just get the appropriate cable if you don’t want to deal with adapters:
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=14852
Better yet, get five or six of them, because USB-C is replacing USB-A ports slowly but surely across the market.

Re: Sound Manager software for iOS request
I’d be surprised if they aren’t working on it, at least.Gambold wrote:This has been asked for so often that I'm sure Clavia has seen the requests and decided that it's not doable - either from an engineering or more likely financial standpoint. I don't know what their market share is but it's got to be pretty small compared to Korg and Roland, et al.
It’s just that this stuff really has to work properly when it’s released, and when your entire team (including manufacturing, marketing, management, engineering, and software/firmware development) is fewer than thirty people, things take time. Especially when you’ve just shipped two big updates to two major product lines and are not yet done working out the kinks and bugs on those. And we still don’t have a Sample Editor that supports embedding parameters in the new nsmp3 Format yet.
They’re going to have to ship a re-worked software suite by the end of next year at the latest, when the latest Macs stop supporting 32-bit applications.
Given the close ties and overlap between developing for iOS and developing for macOS, I would expect to see iPad versions of their software at that point.

Re: Sound Manager software for iOS request
I am the keyboard instructor at the Naval School of Music in the US (where we train military musicians)
The fleet has gone to Nord keyboards, which are great but pose a problem in downloading sounds. The military network will not connect to the Nord site. We get a message just saying there is an error and to try again later. No other site has this message. Some sites can’t be accessed, but a message will pop up saying we could ask for permission to use the site. This means we can’t download the sound manager or any sounds. Since I personally don’t have a laptop, but do have an iPad Pro it would be helpful to have an iOS version that I could bring to work with me. Is there hope for this on the horizon?
One big problem is that students create custom programs for their projects at the school and then use up storage on the Nord, which is to be expected, but there is no way to do a factory restore for the next class of students. Is there any way to use my iPad Pro to do a factory restore? Even if I have to buy some hardware?
Thanks

Not currently.
Don’t abandon hope, but we haven’t heard anything at all about the subject from the mothership so far.

As Analogika said, so you'd better get a cheap Windows tablet for now, it will do the job.NAVSOM wrote:I am the keyboard instructor at the Naval School of Music in the US (where we train military musicians)

Re: Sound Manager software for iOS request
If Nord would open up their API, I'd love to write some apps for this!

You should talk to your Sys admin (IT support) there is no reason you shouldn't be able to access the Nord website. The only possible explanation would be miss-configured proxy's or possible geographic network blocks or either some other misconfigured network setting or incorrectly or overly provisioned web content filter.NAVSOM wrote:I am the keyboard instructor at the Naval School of Music in the US (where we train military musicians)

Ah, firstly this was my original post but couldn't find my username or password at all, typical lol.
It would be possible now given that iPad OS is to launch, so, given that most newer ipads could handle this kind of work, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for an iPad OS based version of Sound Manager and Sample Editor for release. That would really help, who wants to take a laptop on the road all the time? not me.

Hmm, I don't see what difference it makes. "On the road" means, I presume, not on the stage. Anyone who has worked with Sound Manager knows that uploads and modifications take time, and I don't see the rest of the band and the audience waiting while the keyboardist is uploading that sample he forgot, or fiddling with preset configurations. This work all has to be done before the performance. And even if you have lightning fingers and the band is willing to tell jokes to the crowd while you are waiting for some must-have synth sample to load, you're gonna need a decent Internet connection there in your little corner of the stage, and not a lot of venues are going to provide that.
SO, that means that any work "on the road" with Sound Manager is going to take place during downtime - in the hotel room most likely. This goes for Sample Editor too - unless there is anyone reading this thread who live-edits their samples with Sample Editor during a performance, that's all homework.
There are plenty of light laptops out there. Just pack in it with all the other gear. Once you load all your speakers, poles, mixer, keyboards, rack, throne and who knows what else, what's a laptop bag matter?

You'd be right in most cases, but come and work with me and see what it's like from a side where you see nothing but absolute pitch black, you have no driver, you rely on public transport, personally, taking something like a macbook pro, etc means more of a headache for me. I'd rather an iPad where I can touch navigate using VoiceOver than having to navigate via a keyboard.Gambold wrote:> That would really help, who wants to take a laptop on the road all the time? not me.<

in reference to downloading sounds, etc, unnecessary. If you're like me, you'll have downloaded the entire Nord Piano library, sound library V3, etc to a storage volume or in my case, my iMac. I have created a series of restore files which allow me to switch between requirements, in some cases all I need to do is switch bundle files, but to be honest, I'd do this work well before an event, it doesn't take that long to perform a full data transfer.
As I had explained in my earlier reply, if you've observed Apple's launch of iPad OS, part of it means data storage and data handling like you perform in any OS with a GUI (Windows, MacOS, etc) as such, a capable iPad could store the entire Nord Sound Library system, backups, etc and handle particular functions.
There are others who'd no doubt say the same and they can see. The Stage 3 for me is to be perfectly direct, it is the instrument that gies me freedom to perform, sound sculpt, etc. Comparing it to equipment I've owned for years, Nord offers me what I need in a tactile setup, no touch screens, no worrying access issues, Everything I need for the most part is at single touch point.
