At a women's correctional facility. Someone started throwing aluminum pie plates (like frisbees) at the band and then this went on for about 15 minutes until the guards stopped it.

Jazz quartet gig in a basement floor bar. We are playing Gentle Rain. There is a noise, and one of the bartenders asks if it was an explosion. It sounded like thunder.
Shortly after, there is a commotion at the door. One of the bartenders is trying to help a few people open the door to get out but it won't budge. Then someone yells, that there is water up to the (eye level) window. Just then water starts pouring down from the ceiling light fixtures. The staff wisks all the customers, us and our gear out the back door.

Turns out there was a rain torrent, that hopped the curb, down the enclosed outside steps, overwhelmed the drain and filled up to the windows, while the next floor above us was flooding out, thus the water from the overhead lights.

Gentle Rain is a nice jazz standard, but will always remind me of that crazy night.

stopmakingsense, your crazy story reminds me of a video one of my kids shared with me last week. It’s a flooded indoor mall, water pouring from the skylights way above, ankle-deep puddles below... with the band on a platform stage on the bottom floor, everyone watching them from the second floor and escalators, and they were playing My Heart Will Go On.
It’s on Reddit, if anyone’s curious.

Last year Aug. 4th long weekend in Canada. Hectic weekend for me every year but this was the exception. Coming off from night shift on Saturday morning, 1st day of 3 in club championship (golf) and its my wedding anniversary. Day two back to the golf coarse, finish up and clean up for a 2.5hr drive where my band was playing the "Freaks Olympics" Had no idea what we were getting into, we were told P.A system is there. Once we arrived went to check out the stage and P.A, look around there is no P.A on the stage, there is no P.A anywhere!! Finally find our contact they direct us into the saloon where the P.A was located. Finally check it out and blow off probably 3/16" of dust from the mixer, can't get s*** working and close to calling it off and cut our losses. Finally we get it to work move the stuff outside and hooked up 15 min before we go on stage. No time to freshen up but enough time to smash a beer or two and on we go. The smell of weed was everywhere and trust me we seen all kinds of people in all types of attire. Anyway turned out to be a great venue girls flashing us and the weirdest dude was wearing a sequined blazer, top hat, and nothing else on just strolling around. Once again it was a great night packed up and drove home made it home by 4:30am took a cat nap and played day 3 in club championship for 3rd place. Wish I could do it all over again this year.

Did you by any chance cover Frank Zappa's "Call Any Vegetable"?
