What? But this is precisely what no longer works!
You
cannot have "3 other sounds on the external keyboard (MIDI Panel)" — the panel option has been removed! You have to choose between Panel B organ, Panel B piano, or Panel B synth; that's it.
That's the whole reason people are upset in the first place!
Well actually you are both right - you can not have three sounds on the external keyboard, by using Dual KB. That was, unfortunately, removed for unclear reasons... but...
AnotherScott is referring to "workaround" (which I actually was using for years with my Stage 2, before I realized the pros of using DualKB instead) he has thoroughly explained in the Dual KB thread,
Let's forget about Dual KB for a while, and just think about the two independent panels. Each panel can be assigned to a MIDI channel, and let's say you want to use Panel A for the internal keyboard. Then you can assign a MIDI channel, let's choose 2 in this case. Then you also set your external MIDI keyboard to channel 2, an voila - the external keyboard will now play channel B, regardless which panel is assigned to the internal keyboard.

Ah, so the functionality was not removed at all — they merely dropped the redundant function from where it made less sense, leaving it in place exactly where one would expect it: not as a special Nord function, but as a straight MIDI function?
So why are people up in arms about it then?

Well I just came from a week of doing shows (Broadway Christmas show) and I must say the Stage 3 was ROCK SOLID! This was with massive program changes, programming sounds quickly on the fly for the music director, all kinds of morphing, changing songs in list mode etc. sounded amazingly great, got so many compliments on the sounds from many people, and got rehired for the next show in March. I’m an extremely happy camper! It never even came close to letting me down once!
It’s way way better sounding than my former NS2 EX and Motif XS.
Bravo to all those at Nord!

It was discussed at great length in the Dual KB board, but that one got so long that the essential information eventually got lost, I think
The main difference between Dual KB and the "Panel B plays externally" option is that with Dual KB you could (can *) work the internal keys and have them play your "internal" sounds
while tweaking the "external" sounds on the knobs. In "Panel B plays externally" the keys will play the sound of the activated panel: If you want to tweak Panel B, you need to activate that panel first (and then the internal keys will play Panel B sounds until you change back again).
*) Of course this still works as intended for the Dual KB instrument: If you have e.g. Synth B set up as your Dual KB instrument, then you can activate Panel B and play e.g. the other instruments in Panel B (and maybe also A, if both are on) from the internal keyboard, and tweak any knobs on Synth B which you play simultaneously from the external keyboard.
For my use, this is not a serious limitation, although it may be for some, of course.

What? But this is precisely what no longer works!
You
cannot have "3 other sounds on the external keyboard (MIDI Panel)" — the panel option has been removed! You have to choose between Panel B organ, Panel B piano, or Panel B synth; that's it.
You can only play a single engine from an external keyboard; you can not control a whole panel of three engines.
That's the whole reason people are upset in the first place!
Oh mannnnnn
Why myyyy would they do something like that????!!! What if I wanted to play EP mixed with a bit of synth underneath!!! What are these clowns thinking ???
How could you NORD . You HAD the feature , then REMOVED IT. And PEOPLE bought this $5000 minimum keyboard thinking that it is possible to play your panels on an external keyboard.. that’s absolutely disrespectful . Disgusting . Crooks!

I mean!
You have 3 engines that all need different type of feels to utilize the stylistics of their respective sound, example I don’t want to play organ riffs on a 88 or a clavinet on a 88 ... or a synth either ... or strings ... so I’ll get the 73 compact and plug a controller in like the VPC1, and use it for acoustic piano or rhodes etc .. maybe layer some strings or split the KB with bass for left hand and piano for right ... just what the hell do you tthibk you’re doing ?! You’re selling people on these features and then taking them away after people buy them! That’s absolutely outright disgusting ... so MAD .

What you ask is still possible, as per baekgaard’s explanation above.
I had misunderstood what the problem was, and the way I figured it was the only way the outrage and people threatening to return their ‘boards made sense to me.

No, the panel option has not been removed. See page 50 of the manual, "PANEL MIDI CONTROL" - nothing has changed there. What has changed is that you can't select the full-panel (3 sound) option
from within the Dual KB function. There are some additional consequences of that (i.e. regarding being able to make adjustments to Panel B while playing Panel A, or having to have your external keyboard set to transmit on a different MIDI channel depending on what you want it to do), but...
analogika wrote:You can only play a single engine from an external keyboard; you can not control a whole panel of three engines.
...is not true. What has changed is that you have to use the PANEL MIDI feature instead of the DUAL KB feature. (You used to have the choice of doing it either way.)
