I was an early adopter of the NS Classic ( bought the shops demo-unit), and there was a lot of updates in the beginning. The NS are a complex unit, even more with the last model.

True, one of the reasons why I decided to have no hurry to get me a NS3 ;)
(personal decision, let me be clear, happy for the ones who instead are getting one soon, as it looks a great piece of gear!)

Just posted this in the NS3 thread -- maybe it addresses your questions?

A pedal plugged into the "Control Pedal" can be set to "Control" (in which case it transmits Expression (CC11) values) or to "Control+Swell" (and then it sends both CC11 and CC04, which is "Foot Control").

If plugged into the Swell input, it can be set to either Swell (sending CC04) or Volume (sending CC07 aka Volume).

So all is as it should be, I think -- although I didn't test MIDI reception.

That is the expected behaviour, yes. Of course then actual transmission depends on the MIDI or Extern settings for each control pedal/panel.
