This is the trick to get the levels almost the same....

I saw that. My point was, in my brief experiment, it wasn't an issue in the first place, so why do you need this "trick"? Why should the volume of the part change depending on whether or not a split is activated?

I agree: it wasn't an issue when I tried it either.

Ok, the issue with volume levels is this (and if this is just my NE5d then please let me know because it is quite inconvenient) :

I'll explain as a specific example.

Set LOWER part to Clav
Set Upper part to Organ
Activate KB Split
Set Part Mix to centre position.

Now switch off Lower Part AND KB Split and you should notice.....ORGAN sound is now quieter.

Now if you turn the PART MIX control fully to the right 00/50 the ORGAN part gets louder (by about 3db)


So the summary of this is :
When KB Split is NOT ACTIVATED, the PART MIX control makes the sounds quieter when in the centre position.


**Do other users experience the same thing with this configuration?

Great tip. Last weekend, I performed my version of Park Avenue Beat (Theme from Perry Mason), using a 2-handed split: Sixth note piano chord chops (LH), and strings carrying the melody (RH). It's a brain tease, getting the RH (left motor cortex) to play with freedom and feeling, while the chord comps are taking care of themselves. How independently can the two half-brains work during 2-handed playing? What are good exercises to develop 2-handed independence?

Excellent, glad it was useful. My tip for playing independently is this :

If you struggle with a particular section, try tapping out the rhythm slowly away from the keyboard (just the rhythm of each hand, no notes).
Write it out if you have to. I find if I think of it as " L, R, together, R , L etc etc" for example, then I can gradually get it right.
Once I get it right, keep repeating it (in a fairly 'mechanical' way, so you are not thinking about the feeling of the music, just the hitting of the keys)

To really lock it into my brain, I sometimes watch TV and practice at the same time, or read subtitles! Thats fun!

Great idea, Accordionman. I must give that a try for the Charlie Brown Christmas song, Linus and Lucy. Really tough duel rhythms, unless you're a seasoned vet piano player! Vince Guaraldi was a genius.

I agree: it wasn't an issue when I tried it either.

Ya taking off a split doesn't lower the volume of anything. Maybe he meant the strings on upper created an overall louder sound with the split combination.
But turning off the keyboard split definitely does not reduce any volume on my NE5D.
