Both these two releases are incredibly niche. But it is great that Nord cares for Early Music people (seriously, who else offers fortepiano samples?) and 80s gospel freaks.

Maybe, but they would not find that sound anywhere else. ;)

Hmm. More of the Chris Maene stuff. I'm a tad underwhelmed at these outsourced samples, and not sure what their application would be, other than to pretend I'm Franz Liszt.

I am hoping that the Gospel one will be useful for pop / rock-and-roll stuff.

Perhaps - but I'm wondering how they top the the Black or the Blue for that - unless they are offering XL samples. A gospel grand?

It's not hard to argue that the sample offerings peaked a while back, and now we are getting eclectic stuff that despite its audio quality, has limited appeal.

By limited appeal I mean pianos like the Bambino, any of the Chris Maene collection, toss-offs like the "Rubba Roads," and the Royal 3D surround sound or whatever that's supposed to be. Even the Velvet Grand didn't exactly light the place on fire. Not like the Fazioli or the Bosie did in their day.

The Nefertiti - it's interesting and probably the best EP1 we will get from Nord, but it too isn't really at "reference standard" level.

I'm thinking this is the way it's going to be for now on. That's not necessarily bad, either - a lot of those older samples are really good. I wouldn't mind seeing some of them revisited with newer technology and larger file sizes - Lady D, Black, Studio Grand 2, etc.

I don't see how you can say the sounds have peaked since the Royal Grand is so awesome. Yes, the 3D thing is a bit gimmicky but the multi mic versions are coming. That's what I was hoping would be released today.

Also, even though the Nefertiti isn't exactly what some were hoping for it's still a very usable sound and many people's favorite ep.

I look forward to any new acoustic or electric pianos although I'm much less likely to load up anything that's detuned, but if others like those I'm happy for them. I too would love an xl grand lady or studio grand 2.

It seems to me that expectations continue to rise rather than there being a drop off in quality.
