So you don't like this sample now ?
You seemed to say the absolute contrary the other day :

Did you change your mind ?

For me the Nefertiti Rhodes is one of the best out there -we could even narrow it down a bit if not considering software samplers- but at the end it all comes down to a personal preference.emartin149 wrote:My point was that we are still waiting for a go-to, baseline Rhodes that is of the same quality, sample-wise, as the latest acoustic pianos. The Nerfertiti is fun but it doesn't fill that bill.
And let's all admit that if Nord was charging $ for these samples, like many of their competitors do, there would be a lot less celebration and considerably more criticism of the Nefertiti.
Even if we are not planning to put it under the sample/set we regularly use, I do really appreciate the fact that Nord ended up correcting the tuning.
Most of us use electric pianos so often that... yes, indeed, it would be great to see more quality EPs added to the Nord Piano Library.

No, I did not change my mind. In that thread, I said the Nefertiti was the best Rhodes sample there is for Nord users, and if they want a better one, they should buy a real Rhodes. Clavia clearly isn't going to produce one that is a reference standard, for whatever reasons they have. It's been long enough, there's been enough feedback and complaining - we're not going to get one.
*This* thread is about calling imperfections in a sample "charming" or "full of character," which some might feel is a way of explaining away their flaws. Had Clavia never fixed that C#, I'm sure there are still many that would have defended it.

An out of tune key has nothing to do with character, it's just a key out of tune. Noone would play that in a descent live or recording situation.
Imho, the last 5 years Nord completely lost ground to the other brands, except for the organ. You can get all the sampled stuff in higher quality from Korg, Kurzweil, Roland and Yamaha, partially even from Casio. 5 years ago it was more the other way around. If you go back a few years more, they were on top. They surely should evolve, or they will sell a lot less (which they already do). The Kurzweil Forte crushes the Nord Stage in almost any regard. It's just the organ and the direct access to all controls that's left.

I agree that the B3 emulation is the principal feature of the Electro that distinguishes from its competition.
I'm not schooled enough on the current acoustic samples out there, but while I can see that a Yamaha CP4 is very likely a better acoustic keyboard emulator - it's essentially dedicated to that purpose. Nord has always had the best "swiss army knife" plus the free subscription service to their samples (although it's another debate how much performance value the Nord Libraries really provide).
I use mine for acoustic pianos, B3, and a small handful of samples. We don't play Rhodes/Wurli stuff that much. I've tried all the acoustics, except for the really old ones, and while there is indeed variance I think too much is made of that...in rock/pop band environment it's pretty hard to discern the nuances of a Bright over a Silver. Maybe in a quieter environment you could, but then why are you playing a Nord, if sensitive jazz combo is your gig. Seems like you'd go to something with a better keyboard.
People cheer the uprights pretty hard, but again...if we had to pay extra for them I doubt they'd sell much. There's a lot of them and if you like futzing it's a treasure trove, but for working musicians who need one or two good piano sounds, it's overkill (like all those grands, each in three to four different sizes) and I'm guessing much if it isn't used outside of personal diddling around...that's what I meant by performance value.

Re: New *updated* Nefertiti EP available - version number 5.
For me, the real feature that sets Nords apart from ANY other board is they're the perfect live gigging board.
Yes, there are keyboards with better sounds (but if you want THE best possible sound, you go software anyway).
Yes, there are keyboards with better actions. Yes, there are lighter keyboards. Yes, there are keyboards packed with many, many more features.
But Nords are pretty much the only ones that do it all in a portable, road-proof-built-like-a-tank and user friendly, no-menu-diving instrument.
With the added bonus of being totally customizable, making it your personal instrument (but even this feature is geared towards pro live use, so a touring musician can travel with only his backup files and turn any board provided by the local gig into HIS board)
The way I see it, this is the true reason of their success.

I can do this with my Roland RD 700GX - and I used to do it a lot, as my church had the same keyboard. It was so handy setting everything up at home and just bringing a USB stick to church.Spider wrote: With the added bonus of being totally customizable, making it your personal instrument (but even this feature is geared towards pro live use, so a touring musician can travel with only his backup files and turn any board provided by the local gig into HIS board).

In particular the no-menu-diving point.

Absolutely. In this regard, I feel nothing comes close. As you mentioned, purists should go the software route for studio work anyway. My Electro is a perfect weight, and it's made of metal and wood - I feel very confident about its durability. Plus it kicks royal a$$ as a Hammond Organ. And yes - everything is right there with KNOBS, you aren't whacking away like a lab rat on some plastic button to find an effect.

You can do that with probably any workstation or expanded stage piano on the market.Spider wrote:(but even this feature is geared towards pro live use, so a touring musician can travel with only his backup files and turn any board provided by the local gig into HIS board)
Yes and mainly they are easy to use.Spider wrote:For me, the real feature that sets Nords apart from ANY other board is they're the perfect live gigging board.
