NSL: Detune Saw Lead MM BR 2.0 - "bent" sample?

Post by maxpiano »

Today I was looking in the Nord Sound Library 2.0 (Synths category) for a good Minimoog basic (waveform only) sample to use as the starting point for a sound I want to make.

I found the "Detune Saw Lead MM BR 2.0" which was exactly what I was looking for but... when I play the notes between B2 and C#3 I hear that the sample used for those keys has a sort of "built in bending" that makes it impossible to use.

Before I write to Nord Support, can someone please check if he/she gets the same? Thanks!
(I am using it on a NordStage2)

That is just the nature of this sample.
If it´s unuseable for you then don´t use it.
You should be able to find something that fits your needs though.
There are a lot of more samples in the sample library archive.
Or you could just try to dial in the sound yourself with the synth.

I would not agree: it can not be the intentional nature of that sample, because if it was so then it should be the same across all keyboard, or a reasonable part of it, not just on 3-4 key, right?

Of course I can use workarounds, such as using the internal VA (what I am currently doing) or sampling that same waveform (I don't own a Minimoog, alas, but I use Arturia Mini V so it would be easy to sample from it), nevertheless I think it is worth sharing this info with the forum and maybe ask Nord if they can fix it.

PS: meantime I tried also the 1.0 version of the same .nsmp, it has the same problem; ma ybe Nord doesn't own teh source .wav so they can't fix it... (?)

Oh, my bad, i missed the "little" detail about it being pitched only between those notes.
Yes, that is a bit strange.
If it´s on their site they should own it and also have the original files for it so they should be able to fix it, if they want to.

Hello,

I'm Klaus P. Rausch, the maker of many Clavia sample instruments. I have fixed the Minimoog Detune Saw Lead C4 sample and updated the concerned nsmp file now. The Clavia product manager is informed about the update and I'm sure that this nsmp file will be replaced with the new version very soon.

You're welcome.

Now a hint: Although the Clavia staff got the project and nsmp files they need to move the data to their new 2.0 library software. This is what they do inhouse. So it would be a good idea if you send an email to their support and ask for the update status of that file. As they're heading to the coming International Musikmesse Frankfurt soon and have other stuff on their schedule, updating the file might take a little while anyway.
