Outputs

Post by Per L »

I have a Yamaha DXR10 as a monitor and would like to dedicate it especially for my Nord Stage. I had an idea that I could send a stereo output through output 1 & 2 to the mixer and at the same time be able to use output 3 or 4 (mono) to my own monitor. I can't see that it's possible. Anybody with an idea?

Yeah, maybe that could work with the RCA-input on the Yamaha-monitor..

If you are thinking about using a "Y" cord, don't. Remember, "Y" cables are for splitting a signal, not to combine a signal.

You can, however add a few resistors to make a summing box : http://www.rane.com/note109.html

Hey Mr. G, You are correct. I've seen the 'how to' info in your link. It's a great source of information that I've had in my reference file for quite a while. But, for those people that are all thumbs when it comes to building boxes, maybe not. Cheers and Happy New Year!!

Hi,

- as was mentioned, you can use a Y cord to split the signal, one side to the mixer and one side to the active monitor.
- If the mixer has inserts, you may be able to use them as monitor output by plugging in the cable only halfway into the insert socket.

Faced with the same problem, I would probably use the headphone output to drive the monitors.

If you're using a di-box, most of them have "thru" or "link out" sockets that can be used for monitoring, but yes, I also think that the headphone output would be the easiest way to solve your problem. Outputs 3 and 4 are meant for sending different sounds to different channels, say, an electric piano to a guitar amp or a bass sound to a bass amp while the other sounds are going directly to the PA.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that reverb and compressor are not available for outputs 3 and 4. They are more like auxiliary outputs.

Hi, I have a related question: I am using outputs 1&2 to my audio interface for recording and outputs 3&4 to my mixer/sound system for practicing/playing for fun. I would like to avoid having to change the settings every time I am switching activities. Is it possible?

Hi,

I don't think so. The choices for output are "1&2", "3&4", "3" and "4". I can see no setting "1&2&3&4".
