Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
Hi Guys!
It's been some time since we talk here and compare the sounds of acoustic pianos Samples from Nord Piano Sample Lib.
Who wants to participate in refreshing this subject?
So what are your favorite pianos samples, and in which musical style do you use each?
I can not decide which is my favorite, but right now, i like the Silver Grand for Pop / Solo, but also use a lot the Italian Grand (both XL) for more intimate style or even Jazz / Soul
I'm "trying to" learn to like the Mellow Upright.
Curiously, I never liked the Grand Lady D.
And you guys?

Re: Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
I use the Silver and Faz as well - I find they both cut well in the mix ( 5 piece electric jazz outfit). I like the way the Silver sits in the mix but end up back on the Fax most of the time as I think I like it more across the whole range of the keyboard.
I liked playing the Lady D and Bosen at home but found the Lady D to mellow for live and the Bosendorfer a bit bombastic for jazz - just my own tastes though.
I am still tweaking mostly the mids eqs to try and find the sweet spots - different in headphones than onstage of course.
Hoping Nord adds some MKS-20 to the piano library at some point (there is one that is ok in the sample library). Some more North American uprights would be nice too (Heintzman, Willis etc)

Re: Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
Silver Grand has really become my instrument for piano. I had never thought an electronic keyboard could have that kind of personality but for me, it has happened. I'm starting to get that way with the clav.

Re: Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
I have a real Kawai Grand. So the Silver XL is my go to piano sound for everything. Other than that, I like the bright grand Lrg for when the mix is too thick.
I also like the Honky Tonk piano, just to make people laugh.
For the EPs, I love the EP7, then EP1 and EP4. Also, the Amped Wurly is great for that classic bark.

Re: Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
It seems most people go for the Silver Grand and the Italian Grand. Although I like them both, my 'standard' piano is the Studio Grand 1.
Maybe it's because I own a Yamaha upright (U1) and like the Yamaha timbre.
For some piano/vocal-songs I like the Bosendorfer. It seems to me the dynamic differences come out very nicely using that one.

Re: Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
I usually use the Silver Grand in band setting as it seems to cut through the mix much more than others. I often use the Bosendorfer for individual play, although I have also used the Silver Grand as well. I don't add any effects or adjust the equalizer, just play them as installed.

For the time being, Shigeru Kawai (Silver) and Bösendorfer for me. The Mellow Upright (with some EQ to brighten it up a little) is my favourite, and rather different, upright sound.

Re: Refreshing Pianos Sample Subject!
I wish there was more in the vein of "Grandma's Piano", something a bit wonky and rattly - strings about 50 years old.
Also the Tack piano is a bit tame - I could do with one that sounds like it's being played with ice picks.
