Here is a knob tweaking demo of the Sub 37, that gives a good idea of the overall character of the Moog Sub 37

RedLeo, I think you really hit the nail on the head here. It seems that MOOG was trying to fit Voyager level modulation on a Phatty size price point... Some corners clearly had to be cut (otherwise they'd have a hard time justifying the Voyager line to customers). On the flip side, the Minitaur (low price point point, simple interface) sounds HUGE.

For my ears and tastes, had MOOG done whatever needed to be done in order to keep that fat-warmth-roundness that we all love in the the Voyager / Little Phatty / Minitaur, they could have charged up to $2000 and folks still would be buying it... And in my case, keeping it.

Like I said, I'm sure there are people who love the Sub 37... I just prefer their prior synths and hope the Sub 37 isn't the "new sound" of MOOG. If I ever have $3,000 sitting around, I'll be the first to make a polyphonic-Phatty chain.... And smile for days!

Cheers!

THAT IS the point! I am actually thinking about adding a Little Phatty to my Slim - and will so have a true 2-osc/2-voice synth...
And even with another Slim the whole trio costs just the same as a new Sub 37... :o attractive concept...

I was thinking a Little Phatty and 5 Slim Phattys for a 6 voice poly chain (hence my $3000 estimate), but yeah, gotta start somewhere right???

Tschüss!

After spending a couple days with my newly arrived NLA1 -- I can truly say I love it. Yes, I'd like to have more of everything that everyone else has said -- who doesn't want more knobs, more envelopes, more LFOs, more modulation routings. But the thing produces great sounds and does so quickly.

One of my favorite tricks is to have a dry sound on Slot A, and a different sound in Slot B that is 100% reverb.

Thank you all for your input and insight!

I love all my Nords but the A1 is the best dollar for dollar money I have spent. Great & versatile machine.

Indeed. Introduce some panning to each slot and I bet it would sound even better. I'll try that out tonight.

Drum sounds would be cool too, put some delay on the reverb track to simulate predelay. The slot system on the Nords is so well designed!

Here's a clip using Shaw's idea. It really expands the textures the reverb is able to achieve, kind of like a poor man's Eventide.
