Suppose you want the piano and Tetra on specific parts of the keybed:
Set a split and turn the sample knob down to 0.
Then you'll have piano on only one part of the keybed.
Connect the Tetra, set the MIDI channels right ... can you then filter out specific MIDI keys with the Tetra, or will you need an outboard filter gadget?
(Like a laptop with a filtering MIDI software in between. http://www.subtlesoft.square7.net/MidiPipe.html )
I suppose you can not select what MIDIkeys you want to transmit with the NP2?
Hmmm ...

NE3HP, NP88, NS2, DPP1, NL2X, NL2X, NLA1, NL4, NE5D, NW2 (Collect Them All?), some classic Rolands, Arturias, a Waldorf, a Kurz, a WONOK3, a pile of guitars, a P-bass, loopers, amps and computers ... I'm a gearslut!
The territory into which you are wanting to venture IS complicated, so you'll need to be prepared to study/learn details about midi if you wish to navigate those paths successfully. Not to scary you off or anything -- it ain't brain surgery and mere mortals can do this, but you'll want to be able to wrap your brain around it, as opposed to having it wrap around your brain.
And yes, an external device can make many possible setups much easier to switch around. Twenty-five years ago the industry standard device for this was DMC MX-8. There are probably newer devices available which can do the same or similar things. One nice thing about the MX-8 is that they are built like tanks and last forever, and can sometimes be had very inexpensively on ebay (~US$50). And they can do LOADS of fun tricks, like four-zone splits, midi echo (by ms or bpm), etc.
