looking for a new synth

Post by teknokasper88 »

Hello. I'm new here. I don't know what forum that will be best to ask my questions. So you know it, I'm totaly blind, so i can't see a display. Now to my questions. I'm looking for a new synth. The gear i already have is, Roland sh-201, korg micro korg and a Roland fa-06. The synths i have looked at is access virus ti, nord lead a1 nord lead 4, Roland gaia, Roland juno-gi and korg king korg. I have tried the nord lead 4 in a music store, but have only listened to the first 50 sounds i think. Also the Roland gaia. The presets in the nord lead 4 wasn't so good, but i don't think i have listened to all presets. The sounds i want is sounds that can be used in hardstyle, hard trance, hands up and hard dance music. also bigroom sounds. Not electro house sounds. I need some good presets to start with or some soundsets for these music genres. Do you have some of these synths? if yes can you send a mp3 demo to me with the factory sounds and also with some soundsets you have created for the synths? I have listened on youtube, but can't find a demo for the nord lead 4 and a1 where all factory sounds are played. There are lots of demo's for the king korg, where they play the factory sounds. So my questions is. Can the gaia, juno-gi, king korg and the 2 nord leads do agressive hardstyle supersaw leads, basses, bells and pads? I know i can get lots of sounds for the virus ti, but how accessible it is to edit i don't know. Looking forward to here from you
Best regards
Kasper

Hi Kasper!
I have a Virus C and it´s not handy to edit. If had to make it blind... Hard challenge. The presets are very technoid/ trancestyle, too much for my personal taste.
I´m not a techno guy.
Note: Virus can not do bass. I mean deep sub basses with a lot of body. For basses I prefer to use my slim phatty. Everything else is possible with the virus.
But imagine - you have to step through multiple submenus with buttons to push etc... I did not ever use a ti. Perhaps it´s easier to use.

Hello. Thanks for your answer. I know you don't have the ti. But is it easy to browse through the presets in the virus c or are they in menues too? Do you have 1 of the nord leads? will they be good for these styles of music?

Hi,

This might be a valuable tool for Virus owners who don't have the Ti version. It's a VST Editor for the Virus.

Check it out : https://www.mysteryislands-music.com/pr ... n-plug-in/

Cheers,

thanks for your reply. The problem for me is that not all editors are accessible. i'm using a screanreader jaws for windows and for the mac voiceover. Most of the editors are graphical images that the screanreaders can't read. The sh-201 librarian are accessible but not the editor.

hey Kasper

Sounds like you are looking for a synth with lot of knobs and no screen.
Pretty much all modern synths have some kind of screen, but some are much more intuitive just by knob-tweaking.
Apart from Nord Lead, you may like to look at Dave Smith Instruments (DSI) Prophet 12.
Sounds like the best Nord for you might be a Lead 4 or Lead A1

There are lots of MP3 demos of factory sounds on the Nord Site here:
Nord Lead A1 - http://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/nord-lead-a1
Nord Lead 4 - http://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/nord-lead-4
And now for something completely different...

Thanks for your answer. i know these demos from nords page. what i don't know is how good the 2 nord leads are for dance and trance styles of music f.eks hardstyle, hands up, hard dance and hard trance. I can't find any demos with these types of sounds. I can only find sounds for the nord lead 3 and i know it is a difrend synth.

To be honest, the idea that certain synths are "right" for one style of music or another is a bit of a false idea, though it is a very popular one on the internet.. The plain truth is that you can use any synth for any style of music. The whole point of a synth is that you can program it to do whatever you want (within the synth's capabilities of course).

Each synth does have its own "signature" sound of course - thick, thin, bright, mellow, sharp, fuzzy, whatever, and if you want a particular sound that only one synth can do, then of course you would need to have that particular model of synth. But honestly and truthfully, you should ignore all the people who say that you've got to have this or that synth for this or that style of music. Pick a synth that you like the sound of, research it to make sure that it can do what you need it to do, buy it, use it to make music. enjoy yourself. It's really that simple.

There are no rules about how to make music, you should make your music the way you want to make it, and don't bother about what other people think or say. For every person who says "you must have synth A to do such and such", there are ten others doing the exact opposite and proving them wrong. Just because someone said it on the internet doesn't make it true :)

I never had the opportunity to play a nord lead but I can imagine it has a user friendly interface.
Even the presets in the virus c are not very accessible without beeing able to read the little text on the small screen.
The "C" has many flashing LED´s which are indicating which functions are activated.
The developers focus was not on simplicity of use but more on what this synth can do.

Please tell me which synth you have chosen - for me it´s very interesting !!

Hi,
I was a little bit on the same side of you few months ago as I wanted to have a synth to complement my current keyboards....and Redleo gave me the exact answer about the wrong assumption that one synth is better and more dedicated to this type of music....and what he said was very helpful for me and I bought a Prophet 08.
So, to answer you last question, I have a Nord Lead 2X and a Proohet 08, lots of knobs, very easy to use, no issue if you are blind to tweak them the way you want...
All my other synths are expanders that you really need to see the display
Stage 2/C2/NL2X+TC Pedals, Beat Step Pro, 2XMatrix, EMU P2K, TX802, DSI P8/Tetra+H9, P12+TC HoF, D50+PG1000, XV5080,AX keytar, Streichfett, Drumbrute & Impact.Ibanez SR1200+2605, ASS153, G&L L2000,Legacy HSS, Asat Blueboys, Deluxe Savanna
