Difference between NE4 and NE5 Rotary emulation?

Post by neworleans »

Hi guys, longtime Electro 2 owner and forum newbie here. I just put in my pre-order for my electro 5D SW61 and I couldn't be more excited! Dispatch date is 5/29 so I still have some waiting to do

My reason for posting starts with a previous thread in which pablomastodon mentioned that the rotary emulations were the same between the NE4 and NE5 series (i would link the thread if I knew how but I'm still learning the forum). However upon viewing the comparison chart on the Nord website (I tried to screenshot this and attach but it's not letting me), I see that for the organ engine for both series lists "C2D B3 Simulation", whilst under the rotary speaker emulation field the NE5 lists "C2D 122 Rotary Speaker Emulation" and the NE4 lists just "122 Rotary Speaker emulation", insinuating that they are, in fact, different. Thoughts on this? Has anyone here ever put a NE4 next to a C2D to compare their rotary speaker sounds? Seeing as I don't own either of these boards nor does my local music shop carry them I can't do it myself, though I'm almost tempted to make a road trip out of it. Thanks everyone!

I have owned all the electros at one time or another. Also, a Neo Veny
various motion sound equipment and a Strymon Lex at one point. The
NE 4 Leslie effect has an improved effect over the NE 3.
Much more realism. The NE 3 has a very nice growl effect.
The NE 4 has the growl and 1 of the top 3 swirl effects.
I Have not heard the top rated clone effect but still find the vent to be
one of the best.

So if Clavia took the time to improve the Leslie between the E3 and E4, it wouldn't be a dubious assumption to infer that they are doing the same between the E4 and E5, however I have read from Pablo that they are the same

They use similar engines across platforms. The latest engine is the C2d one, and that probably includes the Leslie.

Hi NOLA,

Nord's website language is not carefully written in an effort to trick unsuspecting keyboard buyers. It is entirely possible, even likely, that the person who prepared the NE5 webpage description and the one who did the same for the NE4 webpage description are not the same person. Perhaps it was the same person who thought that adding "C2D" to the line made it sound better. Perhaps someone felt that the C2D, being the flagship Nord organ product, would make an appropriate reference now that it's been out there for a few years and has begun to develop something of a reputation.

Most likely, this slight distinction in ad copy was not noticed by anyone in Stockholm (or very many others on the entire planet). Fabricating insinuations over something this trivial is just a little silly. At most, it's an inadvertant typo. It is a completely meaningless distinction.

Bless,

Pablo

I hope that didn't sound "heavy" -- it wasn't meant to.

Precise wording can be important and slight changes can often be very meaningful. But not in this case. I'm quite certain that it's simply an example of someone typing things out manually rather than copying and pasting from the earlier post. :-)
