ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4
ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4
Hello everybody.
My question is:
The nord stage has 4 outputs ch1 ch2 ch3 and ch4
I'm using ch1 and ch2 for bringing my signal to a mixer and stage volume.
I would like to use ch3 and ch4 (or just ch4 in mono) for my on stage monitor.
The problem is that I cant get any signal out of these outputs ch3 and ch4.
I already tried it with the system menu with options global and program.
But still no signal on these 2 outputs.
What am I doing wrong??

Hi Wim,
What you are suggesting is not possible. The Nord will not feed the same audio signal to 1/2 and 3 or 4 or 3/4 at the same time (unless you write programs which double up identical voices, e.g. Slot A Piano and Slot B Piano are the same with one going one place and the other to the other).
Audio routing settings are made in the System Menu. Do you have a manual for your instrument? If not, grab a copy of the .pdf file from Nord website. The next pages after Global/Program assign outputs to individual instrument sections.
Bless,
Pablo

Re: ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4
Hi Wim,
as Pablo states it is not possible.
Three alternative options that seem doable are
1) Use a Monitor send or direct out from the Mixer for your stage monitoring
2) Use the Thru Output of your DI box (if you use one)
3) Use the Nord Stage's Headphone Output (it's a bit hotter than the line outs but you should manage to get it levelled with your speaker if it has an input knob)
Cheers

Can anybody tell me which channel is right and which is left if I am using ch 1 and ch 2 out of my Stage 2 and going into a stereo amp?

um...is this what is sometimes called a crosspost?
What's the difference? It really doesn't matter which is which, only that they are separate.
Look at it this way: with a grand piano onstage at a theater in the round, opposite sides of the audience will answer that question differently....

Re: ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4
Sorry for posting this question in more than one forum, I didn't know under which topic I was likely to get a response.
I think it does matter! Especially if you are EQing the two channels differently (splitting the board for instance) or if you are using a Spacestation V.3 amp, which I am, and that is why I was asking the question.
Anyway I did get an answer from another poster and if anybody else has wondered about this, CH1=Left, CH2=Right.

Re: ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4
Hm... now that you mention it... the Spacestation amp had generated a lot of traffic in the Keyboard Corner forum recently, a few people are raving about it, so I would like to hear more about it.
I never seen one live, but from what I read, the concept is interesting. It appears to create a simulated stereo image from a single point by using the L+R and R-L signals ouptput by 2 speakers at 90degrees but all in the same box (presumably there is some delay/phase adjustment on that 2nd speaker?). One of the signals goes foward (to the audience) the other bounces on the wall and the effect of hearing the two signals fools the brain into thinking that there is a stereo source, but all comes from a single place in the stage.
However there have been some claims mentioned that make me wonder if they hold any water: that the 'stereo' image travels through doors into the next room...
and that it does not have any phase cancellation issues...
I also suspect that an autopan effect cannot not work as it would when using a stereo PA. Am I wrong?
Edit grammar.

Re: ch1 ch2 ch3 ch4
I have recently acquired a Spacestation v3 and am VERY impressed with it. Have not yet done detailed study on stereo field aspect of the thing, but was immediately struck by how well the speakers stand up to having all manner of signal thrown at them without breaking up, sounding crunchy, etc. Prior to hearing this amp when someone asked me about keyboard amps my response was always: "I've never met a keyboard that I liked." This is no longer true.
As for stereo images traveling through an open door into another room...sounds a little silly, and I'm not sure why anyone would even want to say such a thing, true or not. I'll prefer to focus my attention on audio quality for audiences who are in the same room...
Bless,
Pablo
