Transfer sounds and settings to another Nord

Post by badcompany »

Quick question to make sure I got this right...
I have a Nord Electro 4D. Flying to an out of state gig and would rather rent a Nord there than fly with mine. If I have my computer with me, I should be able to get all my same sounds on this rented Nord, correct?

Hej Mr Bad Company!

Yup! Especially if you will rent a NE4D. You're totally safe!
Use the backup & restore functions. Will take a few minutes ...

Just a question. Does it matter which OS version you are using?

Hej Mr G!

Good point!

Update your own NE first, backup, then bring that OS version (latest) on your computer as step 1.
Very good, Mr G.

It's an unfortunate side-effect of Nord's flexibility with samples and the need to use the sound manager that renting a Nord and bringing your own backups with you is not as straightforward as it could be. If you're bringing your own laptop already loaded it's fairly straightforward, but if not you need to bring a complete emergency kit with you and be ready for anything - PC or Mac installations of sound manager, driver, full backups including all piano samples, and even OS updates. And you need to be very careful about exactly what model has been supplied for you, people at the other end may be vague or just plain wrong about which model it is. If you've got a Stage EX for example and they supply you with a "classic" well, ouch.

I have a story about flying out and despite assurances, the supplied keyboard wasn't even the right brand. It was a Motif and I had USB sticks full of Korg backups... "Well we got you something with MIDI didn't we?"

One string patch went a long way that night...
