A blast from the past. 1976 prices

Post by Hanon_CTS »

Hello All,
I thought I'd post a bit off of the Nord topic and share some scans of a 1976 music catalog that I found in the back of the closet.

I dearly wish that I could get the DeLorean up to 88 MPH so I could go back and purchase at THESE prices ;)

How about an ARP 2600 for $1900?
Image

Maybe a Minimoog for $995
Image

How about a D6 Clavinet for $770
Image

Or maybe a Wurlie for $499
Image

And finally... The Pièce de résistance, a Leslie 147 for under $500

I thought I'd share some old guy stuff with the group ;)

Cheers, Hanon

I bought a new Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 in 1980 and it Was $3250. Money also was worth more back in the late 70's. Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

Truer words have never been spoken.

I've always had a fondness for the Prophet 5.
It is probably the only vintage synth that I'd ever purchase again.

This is the last one that I had:

Wow-That Matrix 12 was a great instrument too. I Had an OB-8 for a while, and it sounded great but was a beast! I think I have a picture of my Prophet somewhere. Sold it in 1989.

Yeah, the Matrix was a lot of fun too. The modulation possibilities just boggled the mind.
I've had a couple of OB-8 synths over the years. The OB-8 has a great deal in common with the rev 3 prophet 5 in that they both have the same curtis oscillators and filters.

I've been on a minimalist kick since 2002 when I cleared out the analog studio. I either sold stuff outright, or put it on extended loan to friends.
There's some stuff that I've sold that wish I had back, like my Synclavier, and my DX-1. Other stuff like the Polymoogs, not so much.

I'd love to see a pic of your P5.

Cheers, Hanon

Sounds like a plan Hanon, when do we leave? (I believe, yes I believe!! - Rainbow Stargazer)

If you don't mind I'd take the De Lorean for a small detour to a Gibson outlet in 1959 and load it up with Les Paul Sunbursts at $280 a piece. They now fetch from $150000 upwards....

If I could could only get this stupid time machine working....
'59 would be a great year to visit. We'd have to stop off in Iowa Feb 3rd as I'd like to warn some musicians against a certain plane flight.
