Help with MIDI Nord Lead 2x set up

Post by ashleymknight »

Hi!

Not sure if this was the right forum to post it, so I'm sorry if it's not I just couldn't find another more suitable.
I’m new to MIDI use so I’m hoping someone can help me get my head around things. I have fluked the set up in SONAR 8 before but I’ve recently started using FL studio and cannot seem to get it working right. I’m using a nord lead 2x synth, I want to use it as a midi keyboard in some tracks although every time I connect it via my ‘e-mu usb midi interface’ it plays the actual synth sound not the vst and program based sounds which I’m wanting to use.

It's probably something simple I'm doing wrong but it is frustrating the hell out of me.

Hej Mate!

How I would start approaching the situation:
1. Turn down the volume on the NL2X
2. You are running Windows? Find, install and activate some kind of MIDI monitor program, to see that you get something from the NL2X
3. ... actions depending on 2 ...

What happens when you disconnect the audio outputs of the 2X?

Marlowes - I tried what's in the manual but the same thing occurs.
Is it because I have my headphones connected to my nord when I'm connecting it via MIDI? I have the e-mu interface selected as my input and output so therefore shouldn't I be hearing it back through my headphones as the vst. Maybe this is where I'm going wrong...
Usually I record through my Phonic Firewire 808 so my headphones are receiving everything through that. It has MIDI capabilities too, should I connect my synth to that via midi?

Ledbetter - I didn't have any audio hooked up at the time, just solely midi connection

Yes, this is your problem. If your headphones are connected to your Nord, you will only hear the Nord, no sound is ever sent from your computer to your Nord. Your MIDI/USB interface only sends and receives MIDI, not sound. In order to hear your vst, you will need to listen to the audio output of your computer, not your Nord.
