Effects for nord lead 2x, stompbox or rack?
Hi,
I'm thinking to add effects to my nord lead 2x for live set up. I already have a TC electronic m350 and M-one XL and lexicon mx200 in my studio but they are all installed and I don't want to remove any of them for my live setting....what could be a good effect set up for live, 3/4 stomp box, a multi effect? If yes which one, I would like to keep it simple, easy to use and to keep the analog sound of my 2X....
Let me know
Sincerely

Hey! Take a look a the Zoom MultiStomp Effects units... I have the MS-70CDR that I use with the Korg Volca Keys. Its simple, good sounding and cheap !
Here a video to see how a simple Korg Volca Keys sound can be transformed into an atmosferic one...

El cheapo:
I bought an old Line6 Pod for 10:- EUR.
Lots of functionality for that price!
Many knobs.
Sits nicely on top of my Lead, to the right.
And ... the color is right!
Briefly seen in this promo video:

Hey !
I do prefer stompboxes: find it simpler and funnier to use, change etc.
I drive one of my synths into a simple pedalboard:
- ProCo Vintage RAT: set to add just a little character, no proper distorsion --> helps to incorporate the synth sounds into guitars while playing live.
- SubDecay Quasar DLX: phaser with cool features.
- Moog MF-104M: so beautiful.
- EHX Cathedral: 99% of time set to spring emulation with short short decay, just to add even more guitarish character and a bit of ambiance.
This fits in a 45cm x 20cm x 9cm pedalboard.
If you want to hear what it sounds like, I can provide a link. And -you- will have to guess what synth I drive into this

Re: Effects for nord lead 2x, stompbox or rack?
Hi,
Thanks a lot to all of you! I thought that stompbox was a crazy idea because as a synth player you should (or must....) have a multi effect rack....but yes for stiiiiiiiive, I would love to hear how it's sound.....I was just building a dual purpose pedal board for bass and my secon guitar, so it could be use as well with keys....
Do you think I need the Radial EXTC box, which transform a line signal into a high impedance stompbox signal friendly and then back to line signal to make it work.....their examples on how to use it on Radial website are used in the studio, not live....
That's it, so yes for stiiiiive for the link....
Sincerely

Re: Effects for nord lead 2x, stompbox or rack?
I use stomp boxes all the time. I actually created a list of companies that make pedals that are ideal for synths:

I use mostly TC Electronics tone print pedals (which you can update via USB); the Zoom BT-100 is also an awesome FX pedal that can be updated via Bluetooth. Both are highly recommended.

Re: Effects for nord lead 2x, stompbox or rack?
@BlackBelt Jones: hey, thanks for sharing this, and welcome to the forum BTW
I mostly use EHX and Moog pedals, but also some ProCo, SubDecay, Tech21, and a couple of Boss -CE3 chorus and RE20 echo. At the "does-not-immediately-fit-keys" department, I tried a CarlMartin Headroom spring reverb: would need an input gain setting.
@Quai34: it's a great idea since you can even build your own pedals provided you're into DIY
My experience is that some pedals do not need impedance adapation, especially the one BlackBelt Jones mentions. As said before, I know EHX and Moog are go-gos, never had any trouble. Other may be tested, or checked into the link above.
Anyone with a different experience, please share
BTW when I got a Nord Lead, I was a bit disapointed because I had been using a G2 for years, especially patches with DIY oscillators that sound more analoguish than the default modules. As I had the EHX LPB2ube, I used it for filling up things a bit and it worked great. Later on I wanted something with even more drive, at that sweet spot where single notes are clean but chords bring some light distorsion. I used the overdrive section of the EHX Germanium4Pi. Hey, mind you, I now use a ProCo Rat: where this will stop?
Oh, and the example!! Here it is: Faster by DNOT.
You can hear a Little Phatty as bass, all the other synths parts -that is verse pads, chorus stabs and coda piano-plucks- come out from the G2 through the pedalboard I described earlier. There is no other effect on synths that the ones I use live.
Your feedback is much appreciated

Re: Effects for nord lead 2x, stompbox or rack?
Hi Marlowe,
I was looking for a used Line 6 Pod online but realized that the input is mono? So you route your Nord 2 X in mono into it right and output is stereo?
Just let me know
Sincerely

I mean, right? Like correct?, not right versus left....thought it might be confusing without the interogation point.....
