Post by dtray187 »

Hey guys is it possible to make a pad sound( on part 2) pump as if it was side chained to the kick on part 1?

Hello Dtray! Interesting issue.

I'm just a newbie on my Lead, but I can find no way take signals from one Slot to another. I do my side chaining in Logic.
Perhaps you can use the LFO2 with the AMP option? In the same Slot. (manual p56)

If you play alone, you would be in control?
With your DAW, let it do the job?
With a band, you're in trouble?
... always questions, questions ... looking forward to more opinions about this. And I don't want to read "buy the new Lead XXX" ;)

Thanks! There are a few presets on the NL4 that I have that pump like that..... now that im thinking about it, even when in program mode and not in a performance, those patches still pump as if they were side chained, I wonder if there is a way to make an lfo give you a side chain effect?

External MIDI => AMP?

Oh, just remembered a strange video I saw on the Tube http://youtu.be/qRD4_eieA5E

You could probably also use that method to sync the AMP to an external MIDI clock.
Have a look at page 71 in the manual. Give it a try and tell us if it works?

Function "A" - External triggering of Amplifier Envelope
This function can be used to trigger the Amplifier envelope via notes coming in via MIDI, instead of by
playing the keyboard.

How about using an external compressor? Simple and effective, and in perfect sync...

Thank you! I will try some that idea.
About the compressor, the issue is, I only want one patch in the performance to pump like that.

Found this thread searching for a way to do a pumping sound on my Nord Stage 2. You put me on the right path. It turns out that you can set the LFO to be controlled by the master clock and set the division (1/4 in my case to have the pulsation on each time). Then you can set the FREQ Mod 2 to AMP (similar to what was discussed on this thread) and adjust the effect on the FREQ Mod 1. I have owned this keyboard for many years and I still discover new ways to configure it to suit my needs.

Unfortunately, that doesn't really help here since there's no master clock. You're limited to matching the rate of the kick sound to the LFO of the sound that needs ducking. You could go the compressor route though if you set each slot to be sent to an individual output.
