It looks to me that the mechanicals of the 3HP and 4HP are exactly the same.

And I agree, we need to solve this problem and go back to making music.

Mike and Dan: any news about keybed situation? I'm starting to think to move on to an upgrade…probably the stage2 76 HA or piano2…the downside is that I don't have the opportunity to try them first. The investment is huge and I have some doubts if I'll notice the difference between the pianos on the electro versus stage…have you guys tried them out, yet?

HA is a different keybed type. That being said I have never played an Electro but my NS2-88 does not make any awful sounds.

fccmt,

I have not yet been contacted by the repair center that my replacement keyboard has arrived. I was told it could take up to 2 months, and that was about 5 weeks ago. I expect to hear soon. Tough time of year to send it in anyway, since I'm playing a few holiday parties. Even if the keyboard does arrive soon, I may have to wait to take it in for the actual work.

I'm thinking about buying a Kurzweil SP4-7 as a backup keyboard for my Electro. A local dealer has them for a very good price. I understand the action is not the same and it's a rather different musical beast, but it's compact and I find the sounds rather usable (I own a PC3-61). Anyone with gigging experience on one?

Keeping the group updated.

My replacement keybed has arrived at the service center. Unfortunately I cannot make it there until the 20th of this month. They will put the Electro on the bench as soon as I get there, so I will be able to drive it home that day. I will report on it as soon as I can.

Thank you Mike! Please keep us posted about the intervention.
I'm planing an upgrade. Maybe the Stage2 76 HA or the piano2…I'm more inclined for the Stage2 though.
I have to think about it a little bit more.

Guys, to put this all in perspective - for those of you with the failing keybeds:

If you're playing piano, do you consider yourself heavy-handed, a feather touch, or somewhere in between?
Are you doing a lot of glisses (organ or piano)?
Does your stand wobble or flex when you play? ;)

(I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new 4HP, and everything is perfect at the moment.)

Hey PScooter63,
You raise an interesting question, but my opinion is: this is a systemic problem with the keybed and not a consequence of playing style for these reasons:
  1. fccmt who opened this thread noticed it immediately after purchase
  2. We see it only on certain notes (A,B,C,D), in every octave from top to bottom of the keyboard. If caused by wear then I expect the middle octaves would be worse, but all octaves make similar noise
While I think playing style is irrelevant to this problem, I think it makes for a fun question, so:
I consider myself more heavy-handed... or at least, I enjoy those songs that require rocking out. :yourock:
I rarely play gliss.
I upgraded my stand when I purchased the Nord, so flex or wobble do not occur.

Hello,
I completely agree with pterm.

The playing style couldn't or shouldn't be a problem on a professional keyboard like this…besides that, I considerer myself a light player...sometimes I maybe get on a medium stage…

but for me It was enough….finito. So, today I've bought the stage2 76 HA. Yes, I gave up on the electro HP…I could not live with this keybed problem. I'm very anxious with this new investment. I've got High Hopes for it...

Merry Christmas everyone

Update.

My keybed was replaced on Friday. The tech shop was great. I made an appointment, and they put the Electro on the bench as soon as I arrived. The work took about 45 minutes, and I was on my way home.

Since it's a brand new keybed, the clackity noise is gone. Thr familiar thumping noise of the TP100 keyboard is still there, but that is to be expected, and not an issue for me at all. It feels great to play, and I hope the problem is gone. Time will tell.

I'm not sure if Nord/Fatar made changes to the HP keybed, but I have noticed one significant improvement. The old keybed suffered from some pretty serious bounceback when playing organ. When playing fast phrases or repetitive notes, the keys would bounce so severely that they would retrigger notes. This made it next to impossible for me to play organ on the HP. The new keybed doesn't seem to suffer from this problem. The piano action is still not ideal for organ playing, but it is now much more tolerable.

I'll keep the group posted over the next few months, but it will hopefully be all good news from here on.
