Rack Ears for Nord Rack 3

Post by major tom »

Anyone know where I can get some or willing to sell their own for a reasonable price?

I have tried UK distributor but no luck.

Any help appreciated.

Does it have to be the original part? You could probably create something yourself, cheap and easy (especially if you still have the screws in the side of your NR3). I've been thinking about rack mounting mine, but haven't done so yet.

$60 (without shipping) seems a bit steep to me, but might still be lower than getting 'genuine' Nord ones.

These might work: http://www.schneidersladen.de/en/haltew ... bgt-3-he-2

I haven't checked the dimensions yet though.

Or like this (just drill some holes): http://www.rogtronics.net/blog/wp-conte ... ears-1.jpg

Hmm, holes, crack - will I get smacked for this?

Or these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=262-244

Penn-Elcom stuff should be fairly easy to get.

Or maybe rack ears for a Cisco PIX firewall (part no 69-0467-01).

Btw. make sure you check the side (height) of a bracket against the distance between the screws in the side of the NR3. I'm just trowing up some ideas, I haven't checked these would work.

Right, I got out the tape measure and measured the width of some Cisco switches I have; they're about 44.5 cm wide. The NR3 is about 1.5 cm narrower (so 43 cm wide), so pretty much all the rackmount ears I linked wouldn't work.

Still, creating your own out of a metal angle profile should work well. I still need to get some to fix something in my backyard. If I have some left over, I could try to make some rack ears for my NR3.

Edit: the ones from Scheidersladen might also still work, since they have that long slot instead of a round(ish) hole.

Hi MJbrands,

Hey, thanks so much fella. Most kind of you! Wishing you much good kharma!

Id never thought about making my own, or hijacking something of something else and drilling holes. Thanks a great idea. Ill look into the links and info you offer further and will update with what I do as a way of thanking you for your contribution to this thread.

EDIT - PS - My NR3 still has 2 screws in both of its sides. I guess these are the originals you unscrew and put the rack ears on then rescrew. Good news then.

I got broken into and didn't get round to getting that metal profile. :-x

Anyway, the screws on the sides on my Rack 3 seem to be the same as the other screws on it, so it seems Clavia standardized on a single screw type. Brackets with a material thickness up to 3-4 mm would probably work fine.
