Mic stand suggestions?

Post by turnstyle »

Hi all,

I'm looking for a mic stand to use with my Stage (it's on the Nord stand).

There isn't any space behind my Stage, so I'm imagining a floor-standing mic stand over to one side.

Anyhow, interested to hear/see how other folks are going about it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

can always hang one upside-down from the ceiling -- saves on floor space big-time!

I always use an Microstand with boom-arm, standing directly beneath my seat. If you can get one with round cast iron base, and the boom/micro is not too heavy, it works perfect.

I used to use a mic stand with boom arm, situated to the left of the Stage. However - in the last couple of weeks I changed stand to a Quiklok double X braced stand (QLX11, I think!) - and purchased the QLX4 mic boom addon.

This is great - it doesn't fall over during gigs, and it's more sturdy being attached to the keyboard. Also, it's about half the length when folded up of a normal mic stand - so easier to carry.

I very much recommend it!

Thanks, though I am inclined to keep using the Nord stand -- is there any sort of add-on that would work with it? (I gather it's not a problem to have the mic physically connected to the keyboard that way?)

I mostly play bass and have only recently added the NS2 for a few songs. When it's time for me to sing and play keys, I just slide my mic stand over to the left side of the keyboard and quickly reconfigure my boom stand. This works well for me for now.

Based on my experience, I would stay away from bargain mic stands. They simply won't hold up. New, mine would've cost approximately $80 for the base (straight stand) and an additional $80 for the boom. I was lucky enough to find one used. If I needed to replace it, I would buy a new one - totally worth the money. The saying, "cheap stuff ain't no good, and good stuff ain't cheap" certainly applies to mic stands IME.

If you happen to have a photo, I'd be interested to see how you have it set up.

Would something like this work, attached to a Nord Stand leg?

Or is it just a bad idea to have the mic stand physically connected to the keyboard stand? (The mic does have a shock mount.)

If it is ok, is there a way to do the same with something more like this:

Thanks!

Or maybe this, with something attached to it?
