Re: C2/C2D pipe organ same as Sample Library pipe organ?

Post by vanderhill22 »

Hi Carebear,

I recently acquired the C2. I didn't know what to expect from the pipe organ but I am very pleased after playing around with it for 3 weeks. I took a listen to the samples offered on the nord website and I'm pretty confident that the Sample library organs are not based the C2/C2D stops.

They still sound great IMHO but I do enough with organ for church that I need something I can rehearse registration changes with.

I debated between hammond's newer SK models that also had pipe organ stops but I'm very happy that I went with the nord. The layout of the stops and sound balance is great even with all the stops out. It covers the basics, principle, flutes, and reeds. You can get string sounding stops by coupling the vox celeste with some of the softer 8' stops. The couplers were also really crucial for me to have. It seems like nord as limited some of the coupler options with updates, for example not being able to have both the 4' and 16' coupler simultaneously in the swell (i'm guessing to keep the sound under control).

If you want great full pipe organ sounds with no fuss I'd go with the samples. I'm not sure about "airflow" but the C2/C2D is an outstanding option for the kind of flexibility that a real pipe organ might offer. Its all about what you want to do with it.

Hope this helps!

Yeah you'll be fine with the samples they have a better full organ sound anyway. The tremulant settings on the C2 for the pipe organ are probably my least used setting when playing pipe. You could easily reproduce it with the vibrato effect on the stage or electro. Rock and Roll!

The Nord C2 doesn't just have a few Vox, Farfisa, or pipe organ sounds. Or even a lot of them. What blows me away is how the C2 turns into a Vox, Farfisa, or Pipe organ, with the appropriate controls,(drawbars, switches or stops) for each and for the pipe organ, all the right couplers, and proper swell action. The integrity and completeness of each of its organ models, and all without losing sight of the precedence of its basic purpose, (Hammond B-3 drawbar emulation) is a stunning achievement.
