Scratch on my NP key
Even though it's just a small one, it really hurts since it's the first one on my beloved piano.
Does anyone have experience with how to fix this ?

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
I have absolutely no clue what your photo shows: a black key? part of the frame? What are those black and white stripes? They don't look like keys.

Yes, that are keys (white and black)FZiegler wrote: 31 Mar 2026, 10:28 I have absolutely no clue what your photo shows: a black key? part of the frame? What are those black and white stripes? They don't look like keys.

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
You may try some polish for plastics to see if you can polish it out, but you should expect the black key to eventually look different from the others.
I would try with tooth paste first, that can help sometimes. Otherwise try something like Scratch Remover (3M) or PlastX (Meguiar)
There was a thread in the German Musiker Board some time ago, which might help you as well since German language should work for you, coming from Austria: https://www.musiker-board.de/threads/pl ... en.496199/

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
That’s what I was thinking too, but I'm afraid of causing further damage. The keyboard key shouldn't look out of place afterward.Schorsch wrote: 31 Mar 2026, 10:51 You may try some polish for plastics to see if you can polish it out, but you should expect the black key to eventually look different from the others.

I also wouldn't know how to polish it properly in terms of the sandpaper type or grit strength.
Regardless, the link you sent is a helpful tip.

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
I myself would not polish anything to be honest, just because of the same reasons you mentioned - I would accept the scratch to be there since it would not impact me playing the instrument. Of course, there are people who are bothered by the presence of a scratch; for them, the only option is to polish it, with the potential side effects

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
Thank you for the second image. This looks much more familiar to me.
So, if it's on a key: It doesn't look like being able to create sensoric problems while playing. If ever this scratch had a sharp burr (doesn't look so), I'd sand it away. Nothing more.
No question, the NP5 is a nice instrument. But the keys won't be the most expensive part.

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
The key for the NP5 surely isn't expensive, but the installation—as far as I could see on YouTube—is quite time-consuming and requires some manual dexterity.FZiegler wrote: 31 Mar 2026, 11:50 Thank you for the second image. This looks much more familiar to me.

Is there actually a recommended shop for Clavia Nord spare parts in the German-speaking region?

Re: Scratch on my NP5 key
Sorry, I absolutely didn't want to encourage you to exchange the key. It was just my way to say 'there is worse.'
